For those of you who received this yesterday, please note the next paragraph, the rest after that is the same. I am glad there was only 11 people subscribed last night as I couldn't seem to spell Tennessee correctly <grin>. For those of you who do not like deleting messages and are on Digest mode, I have it set to send once every 24 hours, or if the file size is larger than 33 thousand chars. it will send sooner. I have set up the list so non-subscribers can post messages also (just cannot receive them), we will leave it that way unless a problem develops. We are currently working on getting the 1840 Census (a real chore) and the rest of the Pigeon Minutes and East TN Baptist Association Minutes and some more marriages online. Should also have a cemetery name listing online soon, and we are trying to see if we can get permission to add the Cemetery Records project that was done in 1972. Hello, and welcome everybody to Cocke County Tennessee's new mail list!!!!!! I am Joe Lorenz your List Host and one of your two Cocke Co. TNGenWeb hosts. My roots in Cocke County go to the BURKE, MANTOOTH, and PHARISS family from late 1700's, (and a Corrotto in mid 1800's). This list was started yesterday (Thurs. about 8 PM) and we already have 40 people on it, (Fri. at midnight) that is fantastic!!! I will be e-mailing all of the persons who have submitted a query as soon as we get a few documents that we are working on online, so hopefully we will grow rapidly. We have been trying to e-mail everyone with a Cocke Co. query every few months as we get more information online and also to eliminate bad e-mail links. I hope that we can have a volume of traffic that will support some good and helpful communications to everyone. I know everyone researching their family has tidbits on other families that otherwise may never get to them. Some people have visited Cocke Co. and may have tips or hints. So, this is YOUR list, feel free to ask, ramble, recite and whatever else you feel the need to, we are here to help each other. HOWEVER, Rootsweb (whom our space is graciously provided free by) has just installed a blocker. When a list-user sends something to a rootsweb mailing list written in HTML, or with an attached file, the list server will send the your message back to you, with a note at the bottom explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. So be aware...PLAIN TEXT ONLY PLEASE. I have installed some interesting (or at least I hope it will be, I wouldn't want to bore anybody) Cocke Co. trivia & tidbits on a tag to this list that will randomly appear at bottom of messages sent. Where I have quoted OTMBH's as source, it is "Over the Misty Blue Hills" by Ruth Webb O'Dell - republication in 1982. The original was published in 1946 I think???? I will keep you updated as to our growth occassionally, so everyone will know where we stand. FIRE AWAY!!!!!
