Howdy from TX to all the Cocke Co. Cousins! My great grandfather was William Carson BRYANT (b. 3-30-1832). His father was Tarleton BRYANT (b.8-3-1785 SC) who married Jane HENRY & had six children. Jane died in 1830. The only clue I have to the identity of William Carson's mother was found on his death certificate which lists his mother's maiden name as "ALLEN". Are there any ALLEN family experts who can help? This is my greatest genealogical mystery to date! Cocke Co. census shows that his father raised him as as "single parent." William Carson BRYANT married (1859) Elizabeth Adeline SISK, daughter of Lawson SISK, Sr. & Sarah "Sallie" CLEVENGER. They had 8 children, all of whom moved to TX, as did W. C. & Elizabeth, who both died in McKinney, Collin Co., TX in 1919. William Carson BRYANT served the CSA in Co. F of the 5th TN Cav. He was captured shortly after the battle of Chicamaugua & taken to Morton Prison in Indianapolis, IN for the remainder of the war.
