Not everyone I posted here was born in Claiborne County but have Claiborne roots. ****************** Published November 8, 2004 MIDDLESBORO - Charles Edward "Ed" Owens died Saturday morning Nov. 6, 2004, near his home. He was born March 31, 1931, in Middlesboro, the son of the late Charlie Owens and Gracie Shoffner Owens. A member of the Binghamtown Baptist Church, he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as warehouse manager at the Middlesboro Coca-Cola Bottling Works after 43 years, and he served as Bell County Magistrate from 1977 until 1985. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy James "Buck" Owens; and a sister Barbara Owens Turner. He is survived by his wife of 50-years, Lois Irwin Owens; sons, Charles Edward "Chuck" Owens and wife Carolyn Sue of Middlesboro; son Scott Owens of Middlesboro; grandson Josh Owens of Middlesboro; sisters, Bessie Owens Chambers of Louisville, Gaye Owens Ross and husband Bill Ross also of Louisville; brother-in-law, Walter Irwin and wife Beverly of Lavonia, Ga. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. His special friends were his coffee buddies at McDonald's and Dairy Queen. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday at Creech Funeral Home with the Rev. William Boyd Bingham presiding. Music will be provided by Jimmy Jackson and Dickie Siler. Burial will be in Green Hills Memorial Gardens at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Josh Owens, Bruce Ross, Eric Ross, David Turner, Eddie Turner, Jack Turner, and Smokey Miller. Visitation will be at the Creech Funeral Home Monday, from 5:30-8 p.m. Arrangements by Creech Funeral Home, Middlesboro. ********************* Published November 8, 2004 Sherman Hensley, 77 EWING, Va. - Sherman Hensley, 77, passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at Lee Regional Medical Center, Pennington Gap, Va. He attended the Full Gospel Church, and loved the outdoors, hunting, plants, and roaming the mountains. He was preceded in death by his parents, Murphy Hensley and Mollie Boatright Hensley; brothers, Joe Hensley, Robert Hensley; sisters, Sarah Jane Taylor, Josie Wilson, Nannie Lee Levering, and Liddyanne Hensley. Survivors include his brother, Kenneth (Mary) Hensley, Tazewell, Tenn.; sisters, Eva Hopper, Belair, Md., Dora Cullum, Haure de Graces, Md., Jenny (Arless) Gibbons, Ewing; 39 nieces and nephews, and a host of great-nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday at Reece Valley Chapel, with the Rev. Gerald Warf and the Rev. Larry Littrell presiding. A native of Bell County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Upper Room Revival Center in Corbin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray White; and her mother, Alma Hollifield Saylor. Survivors include two sons, Michael L. Ridner and wife Lola, Corbin Ky., and Marcus L. Ridner and wife Suzanne, Dallas, Texas; her father, the Rev. Park L. Saylor, Pathfork; one brother. Buddy Ray Saylor and wife, Minnia Faye, Lebanon Junction, Ky.; one sister, LaWanda Hail and husband Reed Jr., Pathfork; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her aunt, Mageline Albrecht, Glen Burnie, Md.; two uncles, Emanuel "Bud" Hollifield, Hulen, and Carroll B. (phone 606-573-3030). *********************** November 8, 2004 Charlie Tipton Greer, 76 MULBERRY, Tenn. - Charlie Tipton (Tip) Greer, 76 was born April 12, 1928 and passed away Nov. 6, 2004 at the Claiborne County Hospital. Tip was saved at an early age and was a member of Mulberry Gap Baptist Church in Hancock County. He was also a veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Blanche Livesay Greer, brothers, Kermit, George, Henry ad Buford and sister Bonnie Greer. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Nell Ramsey Greer; son and daughter-in-law, David and Sue Greer; son Charles Greer, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Joe Nunn, two grandchildren Erica Lindsay Greer and Caleb Tyler Nunn, both of whom he loved dearly; brother Milt Greer, sisters-in-lw Inez Green and Lynn Greer and many nieces, nephews and other special family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Monday at the Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Coffey Funeral Home chapel. A native, Lee County, Va., she had lived in Middlesboro almost all her life. She was born March 27, 1918, daughter, the late George and the late Lissie Surber. She was a member, the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Ewing, Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Swell Eugene Dooley; three brother, Willard Surber, Joe Surber and Judge Surber; three sisters, Dorrie Cheek, Mary Ola Surber and Grace Howard. She is survived by one sister Elise Blacklock, Clarksville,Tenn.; and a host, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, also several great-great-nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be conducted at the Hurst Cemetery at a 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Bill.
