From The Knoxville News Sentinel 18 Sep 2004 CARPENTER, MR. JOHN LEWIS - age 79 of Tazewell, was born December 23, 1924 and passed away September 17, 2004 at U. T. Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. He was a member of Grissom Island Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by: parents: Cornealous and Laura (Lee) Carpenter; infant daughter: Ruth Ann Carpenter; brothers: George Carpenter, Will Carpenter, Wylie Carpenter, and Fred Carpenter; sisters: Rosie Roberts, Dorothy Reed, Nancy Shockley. He is survived by: wife of 61 years: Hazel Carpenter of Tazewell; children: John R. Carpenter and wife June of Powder Springs, TN, Bennie Mae Williams and husband Sterling of Ashland, OR, Laura Ann Goddard and husband Phil of Benton, TN, Joe Carpenter and wife Margaret of Knoxville, TN, Ken Carpenter and wife Jackie of Speedwell, TN; grandchildren: Kim, Jessica, Cindy, Tony, Richard, Casey, Wesley, and Scott; great-grandchildren: Brooke, Abby, Adrian, Alex, Adam, Ayden; sisters: Ella Jane Johnson of Morristown, TN, Dolly Bone of Tazewell, TN, Betty Hodges of Franklin, OH; special caregivers: Jamie Vanover and Inez Davis; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 P.M. Saturday, September 18, 2004 in The Claiborne Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services to follow at 7:30 with The Rev. Jerry Epperson and The Rev. Tommy Louthan, Sr. officiating. Music by The Jerry Epperson Family. Family and friends will meet at the graveside 10:00 A.M.
