Greetings! My name is Stacey Brown, and I am researching the Sumpter family of Claiborne County. They were Virginians who settled in Claiborne County, TN around 1801. Henry and George Sumpter, his son, are listed as some of the first settlers near Fort Butler in Goodspeed's History of Claiborne County. Henry purchased some land at the foot of Powell Mountain and Mulberry Creek and is last listed in Claiborne records circa 1817. My hope is to locate the burial sites of Henry and his wife Agnes. Henry served in the American Revolution as a minuteman. Agnes' family members served in the war as well, and they should not be forgotten. I look forward to chatting with you!!! Stacey E.
