    2. >From The LaFollette Presas 19 Oct 2006 Carlos T.J. Flowers, age 81 of New Tazewell Marie Mayes, age 63, of Speedwell Carlos T.J. Flowers, age 81 of New Tazewell passed away Oct. 7 at U.T. Medical Center. He was a member of Little Valley Baptist Church. He was a very kind, caring and gentle person who was well loved by everybody and never met a stranger. He will be dearly missed by his family and will forever be in their hearts and memories. He is survived by the mother of his daughters, Joyce Ann Deno; daughters: Teresa Ann Angel and husband Tony of Rydal, Ga., Kathy Sue Flowers-Herre and husband Lenny of Knoxville; grandchildren: Teddy Angel of Rydal, Ga and Tracie Angel of Dalton, Ga; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Sigal Flowers of New Tazewell; several nieces and nephews. A chapel service was held Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Teddy Angel and Rev. Tony Angel officiating in the chapel of Evergreen Funeral Home. Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Evergreen Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Marie Mayes, age 63, of Speedwell passed away at her home Oct. 14. She was born July 23, 1943 to the late Vatus and Bertha Turner Berry, who survives and is 102 years old. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Pine Grove Baptist Church. She was employed at Powell Valley Elementary and Powell Valley High School for 20 years. In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her grandson, David Spencer Mayes and brother, Billy George Berry. She is survived by her husband, Donald Mayes, of Speedwell; mother, Bertha Turner Berry, of LaFollette; sons, Michael Lynn Mayes and special friend, Debbie of LaFollette, Donald Wayne Mayes of Speedwell, David Mitchell Mayes and Michelle of Speedwell; brother; Clarence Berry of LaFollette; sisters, Shirley Polari of LaFollette, Blanch Welch, Jessie Wray, Joyce Leach all of Speedwell; grandchildren, Briana Kay Mayes and Elijah Mayes; very special mother-in-law; Mary Marsee of Speedwell. Funeral services were held Oct. 17 at Reece Funeral Home and Valley Chapel with the Rev. Arnold Guy and Rev. Jimmy Branscomb officiating. Interment was in the Greasy Hollow Cemetery.
