Hazel Mae Yoakum Hatmaker, 85 LaFollette, Tenn. - Hazel Mae Yoakum Hatmaker, 85, formerly of Speedwell, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at her home. She was a member of First Baptist Church of LaFollette, and a former member of Haynes First Baptist Church in Speedwell. She was a longtime resident of the Speedwell-Powell Valley Community, where she was a well known Powell Valley High School teacher retiring after 44 years of service. She was also known as a poet, writer and speaker, and was member of the LMU Hall of Fame. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dora Williams Yoakum; brother, Clyde Yoakum; sisters, Willie Dee Yoakum, Mary McCreary and Eva Mauldin. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Owen Hatmaker; nieces, Joyce Cabe of Powell, Jane Mays and Mary Ann Bolton, both of Speedwell; nephews, Jerry Yoakum of Apple Valley, Calif., and Jimmy Yoakum of Harriman; stepchildren, Anna Coffey, Snellville, Ga., Larry Hatmaker, Cleveland, Carolyn Sharp, Duncan, S.C., Sandra Hogue, LaFollette, Marsha Anderson, Morristown, and Jerry Hatmaker, Winston-Salem, N.C. Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Thursday at Cross Chapel with Dr. Randall Pressnell and the Rev. Ellis Hoskins officiating. Interment was at 11 a.m. Friday inBakers Forge Cemetery The family received friends from 5:30 until 8 p.m. Thursday before the service at Cross Funeral Home, LaFollette, Tenn., which was in charge of arrangements.
