Does anyone know what year Tennessee starting keeping records of births and deaths and marriages? Ky started birth and death in 1911 for example can a person get copies of these records from state? county ? Kathy Hall
This is to Kathy and A. Hurst, The State of Tennessee, for the most part, did not start keeping birth records until 1908. The 4 largest counties, Davidson, Shelby, Knox and Hamilton County, kept earlier birth records locally. It has been my experience by doing researching the birth records that up until about 1925-1930 they birth and even death records were not kept very well and there were a lot of people who were born and died in Tennessee that did not receive an official record. Also, no one was issued a birth or death record in the year 1913. Hope this answers your question.
