List several yrs ago my brother found some old CLAIBORNE PROGRESS & MIDDLESBORU DAILY NEWSPAPERS. some water damage. i'm trying to scan them. found a gossip coloum by a Mr.HAYNES in the 1926 & 1928 PROGRESS. below is an old obit from the 1928 issue. might be of interest. note due to water damage may be incomplete. Potts, who died at his home in McKinney, Texas, Ja~uary 7, 1928, and who is buried 'at Walnut Grove, passed away at her late home on Short street in this city at 8 o'clock Friday night. The deceased was born February 22, 1860, .in Cumberland Gap,. Claiborne cqunty, Tennessee, the daughter of Samuel E. and ~lary Cottrell. This family is one of the oldest settleI:§ in Tennessee and relatives have resided on the' old home place~' in that, 'state now for oyer a century. . She was educated' in the common schools of Tennessee, finishing in two colleges, the old Tazewell Tennessee college, and Cumberland college at , B.ose Hill, Va., a Presbyterian school. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Hallie Craft a.nd the latter's daughter, Jaunita, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. Felix Herndon, of Tulsa, Okla., who will be here to attend the funeral of her mother. She Is also survived by five grandchildren; a brother, Hon. J. D. Cottrell, of PIano, and one sister, Mrs. Roxie" (;uy of Harlan, Ky. She is also survived by five half-brothers and one half-sister, who reside on fhe old home place in Tennessee. Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at 4 (\' clock at ,the Central Presbyterian c}mrch by the pastor; Dr. E. O. Whitwell.
