From the Knoxville News Sentinel 25 Feb 2005 BRAND, WILLIAM BAIN - age 75 of New Tazewell, Tn was born February 10, 1930 in Blackruthven Cottages, Tibbermore, Perthshire, Scotland and passed away February 21, 2005 at his home. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William McLellan and Jessie (Bain) Brand, and infant brother, Harry Brand. He emigrated to the USA July 1948 with his parents and sister. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of engineers from May 1952 thru March 1954 as a heavy equipment opera tor serving in Korea from Jan. 1953 to Jan. 1954. He received an honorable discharge with rank of Sgt. He received his U.S. Citizenship on March 14, 1955. His career included several years with the New Berlin Gazette, New Berlin, N.Y. and 32 years with Mid-York Press, of Sherburne, N.Y. as a printer, retiring as Supervisor of Die Cutting and Box Making. He also had a small farm in So. New Berlin, N.Y. for 38 years raising beef cattle. He was a former active member of the First Baptist Church of So. New Berlin, N.Y. serving as Trustee, Deacon, Usher, & Sunday School Supt. for several years. He was an Assistant Boy Scout Leader for several years in SNB. He has been a member of the American Legion for many years, recently a member of the Post No. 109 in Tn. He was a member of the New Tazewell United Methodist Church since moving to Tn from NYS 10 years age. He helped with building the South Claiborne Fire Department Fire House and for the past several years, had been very active in serving with the Claiborne County Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed camping & Gardening and being with his family. His survivors include his wife of 49 years: Carol (Angell) Brand; sons: Gordon McLellan Brand and wife, Karen of Wheaton, Ill William Ransford Brand & wife Chris of Conroe, Texas; grandson: Steven Bain Brand; granddaughter: Catherine Ann Brand of Wheaton, Ill; step grandson: Kevin Jefferson of Sulphur Springs, Texas; sister: Mrs. Isabelle Kent of Oxford, N.Y.; 2 nieces and 1 nephew in NYS. Ministers: Rev. Bill Duncan and Rev. Ken Weir, singer: Stan Leonard. Memorial service will be Sunday February 27, 2005 at 3:00 P.M. at the Coffey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Bill's request was that donations be made to New Tazewell United Methodist Church or Claiborne County Habitat For Humanity.
