Hello, Could someone please tell me if there would be an obituary somewhere in Claiborne County for Benjamin Ajax Rice. He died in Claiborne County, TN on June 14, 1898, and is buried in the New Irish Cemetery in Tazewell. He has one of the tallest tombstones in the cemetery and was a prominent citizen so I am thinking that there should be an obituary for him someplace. He was born June 5, 1820 in Virginia. Hi, I've got BA Wilson Rice's birth place as Grainger Co TN to Lydia Sanders and an unknown Wilson. He had a brother, Isaac Wilson and possibly a sister, Julie Wilson. He took his step-father, John Robert Rice's name. For a good portion of his life, he lived in Bell Co and Harlan Co KY where he owned 8,000 acres of land on Straight Creek, was a millwright, and builder. He married 1- Mrs Vittitoe of TN, 2- Zelphia McFetridge of Grainger Co TN, and 3- Lutissia "Bitha" Tabitha Miller of Knox/Bell Co KY. He's said to have fathered 20 or 21 children. Several of his children served in prominent civic positions in the county governments of Bell and Harlan counties.
