    1. Claiborne County Hursts Descendants to SW Missouri
    2. Bev Harris
    3. Two Descendants Lines of John “Mill Creek” Hurst to SW Missouri I have been interested for several years in the surname Hurst for three reasons. (1) A descendant of my gggg grandfather, Henry Rice*the well-known TN gristmiller of Hawkins Co., TN, married into the Hurst family of Claiborne Co., TN. (2) My first college instructor of mathematics was James Frederick Hurst, whose place I took when he retired, was from this same line of Hurst’s from Claiborne Co., TN. (3) Members from both these lines came to the SW Missouri area where I currently live in Polk Co., MO, which is between Dallas, Webster, and Dade Counties where these two sets of Hurst families came to live and die. Through many postings by others and myself, it is generally known that several Rice families came to SW Missouri, but apparently it is not as well known that some descendants of John “Mill Creek” Hurst came to SW Missouri, too. Also, it is generally believed that Henry Rice came from the same original general area of VA as did John “Mill Creek” Hurst. Let me explain. My sources of information are somewhat (but not entirely) dependent on the accuracy of the data taken from the Internet. Therefore, there may be some errors that you may wish to correct*which I would welcome. The Henry Rice Connection 1. John “Mill Creek” Hurst (1735-1817), b. Orange Co., VA, d. Claiborne Co., TN, m.
