Major B. Neely 01/31/2005 June 14, 1915-Jan. 29, 2005 Services have been set for Major B. Neely, 89, of Monroe, who died at 4:20 p.m. Saturday in the emergency room at Mercy Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health and was seriously ill for three weeks. Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Allore Funeral Home, where members of Monroe Lodge 27, Free & Accepted Masons, will hold services at 7 p.m. Tuesday. He will lie in state from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Roy Southerland, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Von Loop, pastor of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate. Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Born June 14, 1915, in New Tazewell, Tenn., he was the son of Bart Charles and Cordelia (Lynch) Neely. He married Dorothy Elizabeth Gray Oct. 31, 1940, in Monroe. He moved from Tennessee to Monroe in 1936. He was a repairman for 34 years at Consolidated Paper Company. He also worked 10 years in the maintenance department at Monroe Bank and Trust and had worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant during WW2. He was a member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church; Monroe Lodge 27 Free and Accepted Masons, and Monroe Lodge 19, International Order of Odd Fellows. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, crossword puzzles and woodworking. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Robert (Linda) and John (Deborah), both of Monroe; two brothers, Audie of Monroe and Lawrence (Donna) of Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Luther, Fred and McKinley and four sisters, Myrtle Carey, Ruthie Cardwell, Jessie Cole and Norma Cardwell.
