Arthur Owens Jan. 21, 1915-Nov. 9, 2006 story updated November 10. 2006 11:28AM DUNDEE - Arthur Owens, 91, of Dundee died at 10:05 a.m. Thursday at home. He had been in poor health for two years. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bacarella Funeral Home, Monroe, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. John Bullard Jr., associate pastor of Grape Missionary Baptist Church, and the Rev. Jacob Clawson, will officiate. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Born Jan. 21, 1915, in Harrogate, Tenn., he was the son of Jeff and Pearlie (Hatfield) Owens. His stepfather was Ed Cosby. He married Dorsia Sandefur on May 15, 1937, in Tazewell, Tenn. He and his wife moved to Monroe in 1944 from Tennessee. He worked for 28 years as a beater operator for Time Container in Monroe, retiring in 1983. He had been a member of Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe since 1960, where he served as a deacon and sang in a church quartet. He enjoyed gardening and farming. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Hesper (Margaret) of Port Huron and Carl L. (Linda A.) of Dundee; two daughters, Kathleen Smith of Knoxville, Tenn., and Patsy J. (John) Lawson of Dundee; six grandchildren, and 10 great-greandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Conley Smith; a half-brother, and two half-sisters.
