LUTHER CARPENTER Luther Carpenter, age 66, of Sneedville, was born December 21, 1939 and passed away August 20, 2006 at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital in Rogersville. He was a member of Chinquepin Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents: Guy and Bessie Hensley Carpenter; two infant brothers: Paul and Silas Carpenter; brother: Robert Carpenter; sister: Trula Mae Singleton; wife: Laura Carpenter. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Julia and Fletcher Windebank of Rutledge; daughter: Mary Henderson of Sneedville; step-sons: Tom and Sherry Kinsler of Jefferson City, Louie Kinsler of Sneedville; four grandchildren: Spencer, Amanda, Trevor and Raleigh Windebank; brother and sister-in-law: Ivan and Shirley Carpenter of Morristown; sisters: Ovie Greene of Sneedville, Cecile Eidson of Morristown, Helen Vaughn of Newport; special nephews: Gary Singleton and Daniel Eidson; and a host of other relatives and friends. RAY DEAN COFFEY Ray Dean Coffey, age 56, of North Knoxville, passed away August 23, 2006 at UT Hospital following a courageous battle with Lung Cancer. He professed faith in Christ at age 7 and was a member of Grove Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by parents: Rev. Sam and Ellen Coffey; brothers: Jack Coffey, Bill Coffey, Nelson Coffey and Joe Coffey; sister: Peggy Cook. Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years: Linda Jessee Coffey; son: Bradley Dean and wife Melissa Coffey; grandsons: Zachery Coffey, Logan Coffey, and Tyler Collins; granddaughter: Kalli Coffey; brother: Bernard and wife Edith of New Tazewell; sister-in-laws: Joy Jessee of Knoxville, Janice England and husband Ellsworth; mother-in-law: Ruth Jessee all of New Tazewell; and nieces and nephews. HELEN COSBY Helen Cosby, age 89, of Tazewell, was born December 7, 1916 in Knoxville and left this life to be with the Lord Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a charter member and the oldest living member of Fairview Baptist Church. She was a member of Eastern Star for over 49 years and the oldest member of Dogwood Home Demonstration Club. She was preceded in death by husband of 65 years: Benton Cosby; daughter: Patricia Susong; son: Ronald Cosby; mother and father: Lucy and Glen Farmer; brother: Quentin Farmer. Survivors include son: Jim Cosby and wife Robyn of Franklin; daughters: Carole Carter, Gail Brown and husband Gary all of Maryville; daughter-in-law: Mary Cosby of Kingsport; son-in-law: Don Susong of Kokomo, In; granddaughters: Melissa Keasler of Maryville, Shanna Lingerfelt of Louisville, Lauren and Ciara Cosby of Franklin; grandsons: Michael Susong of Kokomo, In, Paul, Chad and Jeff Cosby of Kingsport; five great grandchildren: Jessica, Jordan, Taylor, Chesney and Caden; nephew and grand nephew: Jerry and Mark Mullins of Knoxville; nephew: Wayne Lambert of Morristown; special aunt: Selda Hayes of Maryville; special friend: Sherry Wilson of Tazewell; and a host of family and friends. Ellison, age 31, was born September 27, 1974 in Middlesboro, Ky. and went home to be with the Lord on August 25, 2006. He was preceded in death by his father: Rev. James A. Ellison of Harrogate. Stanifer, Sr, Attorney, age 79, of Tazewell passed away August 23, 2006 at UT Hospital. He established a law practice in 1949 and was the only Claiborne County attorney to successfully argue a case before the United States Supreme Court. He has served on the Claiborne County Hospital Board, as County Attorney, 1st Tazewell City Attorney, Sessions Judge, Charter and present Member of the Claiborne County Chamber of Commerce, and on the Claiborne County Industrial Board since its inception. He was a member of the New Tazewell United Methodist Church, Claiborne County Lions Club and Middlesboro Country Club. He was a devoted democrat as well as an avid sports enthusiast, golfer, and checker player. He was preceded in death by his parents: E.L. and Viola Stanifer; brothers: Jim Ed and Lynn Stanifer; son-in-law: Mark Cole. He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Peggy Hall Stanifer of Tazewell; sons and daughters-in-law: William R.
