She was a charter member and the oldest living member of Fairview Baptist Church. She was a member of Eastern Star for over 49 years and the oldest member of Dogwood Home Demonstration Club. Stanifer, Sr, Attorney, age 79, of Tazewell passed away August 23, 2006 at UT Hospital. He established a law practice in 1949 and was the only Claiborne County attorney to successfully argue a case before the United States Supreme Court. He has served on the Claiborne County Hospital Board, as County Attorney, 1st Tazewell City Attorney, Sessions Judge, Charter and present Member of the Claiborne County Chamber of Commerce, and on the Claiborne County Industrial Board since its inception. He was a member of the New Tazewell United Methodist Church, Claiborne County Lions Club and Middlesboro Country Club. He was a devoted democrat as well as an avid sports enthusiast, golfer, and checker player. He was preceded in death by his parents: E.L. and Viola Stanifer; brothers: Jim Ed and Lynn Stanifer; son-in-law: Mark Cole.
