Clendaniel, age 85, of Harrogate, formerly of Jonesville, Va, was born August 28, 1920 in Bayonne, Nj., and passed away June 19, 2006. He had been a minister since 1942, pasturing various churches in the Ky, Tn, and Va area. He was a member of Harrogate First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by parents: William P. and Helena Skau Clendaniel; sister: Dorothy Clendaniel. Survivors include wife, of 63 years: Frances Withrow Clendaniel; children: Helen Louise (Bill) Janeway of Richmond, Ky, Joan (Jerry) Peace of Gallatin, Elaine (Jesse) Kidd of Williamsburg, Ky., William Kenneth (Lawanna) Clendaniel of Tazewell, Barbara Ann (Ernest) Mullins of Jenkins, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Thursday, June 22 at 8 p.m. in the Reece Valley Chapel with Rev. Ernest Mullins, Rev. Kenny Kidd and Dr. Malcolm Hester officiating. Graveside services were Friday, June 23 at 10 a.m. in the Harrogate Cemetery. Pallbearers: Larry Jayne, Michael Jordan, Mark Meek, Jonathan Peace, Wayne Peace, Charles Rush, Doug Smith, Sam Travis, and Kenny Walker. Collins, age 77, of Monroe was born May 1, 1929 in New Tazewell and passed away June 21, 2006 at her residence. She was the daughter of Elmer and Ethel (Russell) Duncan. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Carolyn Sue Collins, 1953. Survivors include her husband: Charles W. Collins; son: Wayne Collins of Colorado Springs, Co.; daughters: Rita Abel of Monroe, Mi., Charlene (Kevin) Von Otten of Monroe, Mi.; brothers: Don (Rosalee) Duncan of Knoxville, Ray (Doris) Duncan of New Tazewell; sister: Mable (Don) Thornton of Monroe, Mi.; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren. BERTHA MARIE HEMBREE Bertha Marie Hembree, age 55, of Arthur, was born June 22, 1950 and passed away June 21, 2006 at Claiborne County Hospital. She was a member of Tipprell Church. She was preceded in death by her parents: Lewis Henry and Gladys Smith Bowser. She is survived by her husband: Randall Hembree; sons: Jeffery Hembree, Gary Hembree all of Arthur; step-son and wife: Ronald and Ashley Hembree of Newport; step-daughter: Patricia Hembree of Omaha, Ne.; seven grandchildren; brothers: Junior Bowser, Hearld Bowser both of Dayton, Oh, Daniel Bowser of Hillsboro, Oh; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friend. "Jim" McCune, age 63, of Harrogate, was born March 19, 1943 and passed away June 23, 2006 He was preceded in death by his parents: James H. and Irene Henry McCune. He was active in his church and a choir member of the Covenant United Methodist Church. He worked at LMU from 1974 until the time of his death, working as Dean of Administrative Services, Director of Special Programs, Vice President for Administration and International Studies and Assistant Vice President For Constituent Development in University Advancement over the years. McCune directed the University's International Studies Program (the Japanese Program). The program has been an important longstanding relationship with the Kanto International Senior High School in Tokyo, Japan, where over 5,000 students have participated in a program customized specifically for them at LMU. McCune helmed the project almost from its inception in 1979 and had made several trips to Japan. He was a member of the Bell, Lee and Claiborne County Chambers of Commerce and past president of the Claiborne County Chamber. He served as LMU's President's liaison to the United Way. He was active in many civic organizations. He had been honored as one of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, a Personality of the South, was awarded the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award from LMU in 1982, was honored as a Kentucky Colonel in l987 and was presented an award from the City of Harrogate honoring his community mindedness and civic pride in 1994. He also served on the City of Harrogate Tree Board. Jim enjoyed fishing, walking, music, woodworking and being outdoors. Survivors include wife: Barbara Feenstra McCune of Harrogate; son and daughter-in-law: Jamie and Stephanie McCune of Middlesboro, Ky.; daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer and Dan Turner of Harrogate; sister: Janie Deupree of Memphis; grandchildren: Carter McCune, Trey and Peyton Turner, Taylor and Devon Moyers. Funeral services were Monday, June 26 at 8 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church with Dr. Phil Hill and Rev. John Bowling officiating. Music by Covenant Church Choir. Graveside services were Tuesday, June 27 at 10 a.m. at Harrogate Cemetery.
