Hi cousins, I am currently in the process of trying to reconstruct the months between November 1814 and May 1815 and what happened to our ancestors during those months of service in the War of 1812. The Claiborne regiments mustered in at Knoxville, most of them on foot, and the proceeded into Alabama. By obtaining the records of the individuals soldiers (or their widows) who applied for either a pension or bounty land, we will be able to piece together the puzzle of what happened to them during that time. If you have any sworn statements about any of the following men, the National Archives service records, or know where they moved if they left Claiborne County, I would be very very grateful if you would share that information with me. I certainly can't afford to order them all myself. When I'm done with this little reconstruction project, I intend to share the results, so it's not just for me. I like to know about the lives of my ancestors, not just the dates of birth and death. This summer, I went to Alabama (on the hottest possible day of July) to try to find old Fort Decatur where my ancestor, James Claxton, died. I found the general area, but not the fort. He is buried there, someplace near. I found the information about where he was buried in another man's pension application, so these pension statements together will provide a personal glimpse at those few months of our ancestors lives that is not available by any other means today. Here is the list of men. Please see if any of your ancestors are among them, or if you know of any name misspellings, or info about these folks. - Bobbi Estes John Brock, Capt. Patrick N.
