Can anyone shed any light on the ancestors of my gg grandfather, William Carter? William was born .abt 1819 in N. C. and died bef. 1900 in Grainger Co. William married first Nancy A Lands b. 21 Jul 1840 in Grainger Co TN. They had eight children His 2nd. wife was Mary Hammock b 4 July 1864 in Union Co. TN. They had six children I believe William is possibly a son of Robert Carter and Elizabeth M Unknown. Robert was b. in VA Abt. 1774 and d. bef 1860 in Grainger County, TN.
