    3. Glessie M. Jewell March 25, 1924-April 20, 2007 story updated April 20. 2007 11:53PM Services have been set for Glessie M. Jewell, 83, of Monroe, who died at 6:40 a.m. Friday at Medilodge of Monroe. She had been in poor health for five years. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Monroe location of Bennett-Prochnow Funeral Home, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Lamont Carver will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Born March 25, 1924, in Harrogate, Tenn., she was the daughter of Jerry and Doxie (Davis) Cosby. She married Austin Payne Aug. 24, 1944. He died in 1986. She married Henry Jewell in 1990. He died in 1998. Mrs. Jewell worked for Cunningham's Drug Store of Monroe for 20 years. For nine years she worked for Monroe Public Schools. She was a member of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church and Frenchtown Senior Citizens. She enjoyed bowling. Surviving are seven brothers, Ernest (Hazel), Ben (Betty), Howard (Bessie) and Jack (Carole), all of Monroe, Clyde (Louise) of Tazewell, Tenn., Rondal (Joan) of Sewanee, Tenn., and Elmer of Knoxville, Tenn., and five sisters, Mollie Ferguson of Monroe, Josephine (John) Massengill of Flat Rock, Ruby Jean (James) Essary and Phyllis Dyer, both of Tazewell and Sue (Glenn) Allen of Seymour, Tenn. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie and an infant, James Jr. Memorials may be made to Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church.
