Don Evans, 76 New Tazewell, Tenn. — Don Evans, 76, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at his home. He was born May 17, 1930, in Speedwell, to the late Lee and Pearl Madon Evans. He professed faith in Christ as his savior at Red Hill Baptist Church as a young person, and was currently a member of Carrs Branch Baptist Church where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent in the past. He was a retired bookkeeper for various oil and coal companies, and was also a former member of Pinnacle Lodge #661 and Blazing Star Lodge # 455. He also spent a short time in The United States Army. He enjoyed the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and gardening. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and truly loved his church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Warren K. Evans in 1986; two brothers, Lem and Roger Evans; and one sister; Theresa Evans. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Dolores Giles Evans of New Tazewell; sons and wives, Richard and Teresa Evans, Louisville, Ky., and Mitchell and Mary Ann Evans, Middlesboro; grandchildren, Tara Evans and fianc/ Derek Monahan, Louisville, Ky., Tyler Evans, Louisville, Ky., Nikki and husband Brandon Griffin, Middlesboro; great-grandchild, Conner Griffin, Middlesboro; brothers, Guy and Lowell Evans both of Speedwell; sisters, Bethel Brown, Knoxville, Tenn., Althea Davis, Ypsilanti, Mich., Verda Lou Burns, Speedwell, Tenn., Betty Owens, West Carrollton, Ohio; one aunt, Clevia Patterson, Cumberland Gap, Tenn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Reece Valley Chapel with the Rev. Sam Sweet officiating. Music will be by David and Stephanie Cole. Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Green Hills Cemetery in Middlesboro, with nephews serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are members of Carrs Branch Baptist Church.
