I am cleaning out my genealogy files and posting things that may be of interest to others. Many of these items are not my direct line, but are from correspondence with others over the years who are from the name family name, or researching the same area. I do not vouch for any accuracy. Back in the 1980s and early 1990s, I corresponded with a Evelyn Williams regarding the Dodson and Hitson family of Halifax and Claiborne Co. Tn. I am summarizing what she sent to me. This is not my line, although at the time I thought it was. She indicates that Alexander Hitson (Hittson) married Rhoda Dodson and that she was the daughter of Second Fork Thomas Dodson of Halifax Co. Va. She says she also descends from Thomas Hitson and his sister is Elizabeth Hittson who married George Dodson, son of Thomas Dodson who in 1823 bought 75 acres on the waters of Clinch River. On a group sheet, she shows Alexander Hittson married on Nov 20 1786 in Halifax Co to Rhoda Dodson and gives Halifax Co Marriage bonds page 97 as her source. She also gives the Pitts Co marriage bonds as a source too. She included page 195 from the Dodson's of Farnham Parish book by Silas Lucas and noted that person 1364, George Dodson is the person who married Elizabeth Hittson She gives their chldren as: Richard married Drucilla Stubblefield. Sallie married Dec 14 1795 in halifax to William Alderson. Thomas b abt 1792 married Martha Patsy Tucker dec 27 1810 in halifx died abt 1876 and was living with Arch and Sarah Legere in the 1870 census in Hancock Co. Tn. Elizabeth born abt 1789 married march 8 1814 to George Dodson (son of Thomas) and died in Big Spring in Hancock Co. Tn. about 1872 Berryman was a bachelor. Mary (Polly) b abt 1797 married 1820 in halifax to beverly Mays Jr, page 133 Alexander Jr b abt 1796 married Jan 18 1821 in Pittsylvania Co page 125 to Jemima (Mary) Jane Motley Jesse born 1801 married Polly Beck and is buried in the Hittson cemetery near Mineral Wells Texas. Nancy married Feb 3 1824 in Pittsylvania Co Va page 41 to Jonas Chainey. She says that she set a cemetery stone for Thomas Hittson in the Legear family cemetery in Hancock Co Tn. Argle Winkl, Rt 4 in Sneedville is a descendant of the Legere family. She says that 4 Hittosn children came as a young family to Claiborne and Hancock Co. 1. Richard Hittson settled in Howard's Quarter. 2. Thomas Hittson b 1792 and Patsy his wife lived where Highway 25E and HWY 33 intersects on the road to Sneedville, by his sister Elizabeth Hittson Dodson and George Dodson. Thomas Hittson and his wife later lived at themouth of Snake Hollow road on land (60 acres) his son David Hittson bought for them in 1856. Later he lived at Big Creek in hancock. When his wife Patsy Tucker Hittson died he moved in with his neice Nancy Dodson Sutton and Nathan Sutton on the 1860 census of Hancock Co., Tn. By 1870 he was lviing with Arch Legere and Sarah and it was there he died in 1876. She says he was the great-great grandparents of Argle Winkler. 3. Elizabeth Hittson married George Dodson and they had 4 daughters. He is probably buried in the Rose cemetery in an unmarked grave. She lived near the intersection of 25 and 33 near the Rose cemetery. Daughters are Alsey who married Drewry Lawson and had Wilham J.K. Lawson. Frances Jane born 1820 and married Lunmch Hatfield. Nancy born 1821 married Nathan Sutton and she is buried at Lawson Cemetery. Lizzie born 1834 and we don't know who she married. 4. Mary Polly Hittson b 1797 married in 1820 in halifax to Beverly Mays and they had 2 daughters, Elizabeth who married a Bray and Sarah who married Archibald Leger. Children of Drewry Lawson b 1816 m 1837 to Alsey Dodson b 1818 d Jan 5 1855 from census and info from Argly Winkler: William JK b Jan 12 1842 married Dec 20 1860 in hancock to Louisa AE barnard and then to Elizbeth bnetty legear. He died April 24 1912 Thomas b Jan 25 1847 at Kyles Ford Tn d march 25 1931 m Minerva Bledsoe John Isum b 1848 Elisha b 1850 Children of Lynch Hatfield b 1816 m Feb 24 1840 in Claiborne to Franes Jane Dodson b 1821, children: Elizabeth b 1841 Madaline b 1843 Mary b 1848 Nancy b 1851 George b 1854 Rhoda (Tody) b 1856 living with Nathan Sutton in 1870 census Elisha b 1860 Nathan Sutton, blacksmith, b 1817, lived in Big Creek in Hancock Co, d in 1843 married Nancy V. Dodson b Sept 24 1821 d Nov 25 1905, children: Alcy Dodson b 1844 Nervesta b 1846 m Harmon Hatfield Henley b 1848 m Dorcas Williams, shot and killed Jan 19 1884 in Hancock George b 18555 Elizabeth b 1859 Nathan Sutton had a brother Thomas Sutton and his grandchildren are Edgar Sutton of Oak Ridge Tn, Edna Kusba of Halls Tn, Thomas Sewell Sutton of Knoxville Tna nd Charles Sutton of McPherson Kansas.
