He was a member of Victory Missionary Baptist Church in Arjay, Ky. He was preceded in death by his father: Virgil Gambrel; mother: Gracie Hubbard Gambrel; first wife: Opal Fultz Gambrel; nephew: Scott Bradley Lawson. His is survived by his wife: Brenda Gambrel of New Tazewell; daughter: Pearlie Jean Gordon and husband Jim Gordon of Middlesboro, Ky; grandchildren: Ashley Deaton and Christopher Gordon of Middlesboro, Ky; sister: Dorothy Jean Lawson and husband Donald of New Tazewell; nieces: Vivian Gambrel and husband Glen Gambrel of New Tazewell, Donna Cox and husband Pearl Cox of Pineville, Ky.; nephews: Virgil Lawson and wife Jean of Tazewell, Steven Russell Lawson and wife Kelly Couch Lawson of Tazewell; three great nephew; two great nieces. "Boots" Goodner, age 81, of Tazewell, was born February 13, 1926 in Birchwood, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at his home in Tazewell. Boots grew up on the Tennessee River and it was his love of water that led him to join the US Navy, where he proudly served his country during WW II. During his years of service, Boots served as a gunner on the USS Barney, USS Burdo, USS Burke, and the USS Carpellotti and was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asia-Pacific Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Medal. In 1947 Boots came to Tazewell, where he met and married his wife Edith Pressnell, and worked as a heavy equipment operator/mechanic for 53 years. He is preceded in death by his parents: Omar Lee Goodner and Cleo DeFriese Goodner; brothers: JD Goodner and Dean Goodner. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years: Edith Pressnell Goodner of Tazewell; son: Chuck Goodner and his wife Polly Mahaffey Goodner of Sealy, Tx; granddaughter: Tara Goodner of Statesville, Nc; surrogate son: Ernest Duncan Jr. of Claremont, Ca and his family; sister: Irene Goodner Colloms of Nashville; brother: David Goodner of Claiborne County and Springhill, Fl.; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and countless friends he made during his life. He was a former resident of Claiborne County. He retired from Payne Ford Tractor Company after 37 years of service. He was the son of Maggie Pope Janeway and Ed Janeway. He was a member of Straight Creek Missionary Baptist Church, which he joined October 1936. He also served as the Pastor for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ed and Maggie Janeway; brother: Joe W. Janeway; sister and brother-in-law: Pauline and Durard Janeway; nephew: Graham Janeway.
