Crockett, age 85, of Harrogate, was born December 10, 1920 in Claiborne County and passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at Tri-State Health Care Facility. She was a member of Forge Ridge Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Claude and LeBuny Bolton Surber. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband: Ralph Crockett; sister and brother-in-law: Josie and George Collinsworth. Survivors include son and wife: Mark and Phyllis Crockett of Harrogate; brothers: Leonard 'Pete' Surber of Tazewell, Don Surber of Knoxville; sisters: Rachel Baker, Faye Crigger, Laura Ramsey all of Tazewell; grandchildren: Marquette Crockett of Elkins, Wv, Felicia Crockett, Travis Crockett both of Harrogate; great-granddaughter: Madelaine Collett; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She graduated from Lincoln Memorial University, received her Master's at Peabody College in Nashville. She taught at Mississippi Women's College before returning to teach at Ellen Meyers until retirement. She was active in Harrogate Senior Citizens. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Harrogate where she taught Sunday school and initiated Church Library. She was preceded in death by her parents: George Washington and Eva Southern Day. Survivors include her nephews: Dr. George and wife Judy Day, Charles Day all of Harrogate, Paul Jr. and wife Robbin Day of Franklin; nieces: Susan Day Moore and husband Thad of Durham, Nc, Melissa Jane Tomlinson and husband Tim of Knoxville; 12 great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. HAZEL DRUMMONDS Hazel Drummonds, age 97, of New Tazewell, was born January 6, 1909 and passed away October 16, 2006 at Claiborne County Hospital. She was a member of Meyers Grove United Methodist Church. Claiborne County School Teacher for 43 years. She was preceded in death by her parents: D.P. (Ples) and Cordie Chumley Drummonds; sister: Dorothy Drummonds Neely; brother: Ray Drummonds; brother-in-law: Clayton Neely. She is survived by her special nephew and wife who provided loving care of her: Durward and Penny Drummonds of New Tazewell; nieces and husbands: Phyllis Elaine and Doyle Hansard of Smithville, Janice and Jim Beason of New Tazewell; sister-in-law: Ruth Drummonds of New Tazewell; nine great nieces and nephews; special neighbor: Clayton Parks; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was born March 23, 1925 in Ewing, Va. to the late John Grabeel and Mary Ball Grabeel. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a devoted and faithful member of the Walnut Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent and deacon. Retiring in 1986 from the Lee County School System after teaching for 37 years, he had taught at Thomas Walker High School and served as principal at Elydale Elementary School. In his personal and professional life, Gene set a Christian example and influenced all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Dorothy Wheeler Grabeel; sister: Ruby Grabeel Crockett; brother-in-law: Hyatt Crockett; brother-in-law: Eddie Carrier; mother and father-in-law: Ed and Vaude Cunningham Wheeler. ROY JOHNSON Roy Johnson, age 91, of Monroe, Mi., was born September 7, 1915 and passed away October 8, 2006 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. He was the son of Librum and Sara (Cox) Johnson. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Ted and Arthur; six sisters: Evelyn Brewer, Maide Keck, Hazel Keck, Edna Steiner, Nell Tolliver and infant, Thelma Johnson. JEMSEY WILLIAMS Jemsey Williams, age 72, of Tazewell, formerly of Speedwell, was born September 4, 1934 in Claiborne County and passed away October 18, 2006 at Baptist Hospital. He was a son of the late Abraham and Zelpher Robinson Williams. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brothers: Gene and Elvin Williams; sisters: Lindey Edwards, Dellie Mayes, Audie Johnson, Maxine Miracle and Addie Braden. Survivors include wife: Helen Pearl Brock Williams of Tazewell; sons: Eddie Burns and Billy Joe Burns both of Tazewell; daughter: Frankie Lynn Pierce and Greg; brothers: Bruce Williams of Speedwell and John Williams of Ohio; sisters: Patsy Williams of LaFollette, and Geneva Capps of Harrogate; four grandchildren: Joseph Mayes, Kacy Burns, Victoria Green and Hunter Pierce.
