    1. Nelson/Johnson Reunion
    2. Barbara Kesterson
    3. There will be a combined Nelson/Johnson Reunion at the Farmer's Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in the Blockhouse Valley area of Anderson County on July 15th, beginning at 11:00 for the descendants of John Johnson and Eliza Hensley Johnson and Jave Nelson and Ellen Evans Nelson. John and Eliza's son, Rev. John Johnson, pastored several Baptist churches in the Anderson County area, including Farmer's Grove, New Salem, Zion and Spring Hill. Rev. John Johnson's daughter Elene married David Nelson. The elder John was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia in 1814. Jave Nelson is thought to be a direct descendant of Joseph Anderson for whom Anderson County is named. Ellen's parents, Thomas and Permelia York Evans, came to East Tennessee from Knox County, Kentucky following the Civil War. John and Eliza Johnson's children included Jerome, George, Napoleon, John, Thomas, Mary, William, Martha, Demarcus, Samintha and Richard. Jave and Ellen Nelson'schildren included David, Henry, Catherine, Frank, Tom, Cynthia, Page, Taylor, Sam and Clara. A covered dish lunch will be served at the reunion around noon. Following lunch, there will be fun, games and prizes for the kids and music for the older folks to enjoy. Bring your musical instruments if you want to join in. We will have the usual displays including family histories, pictures, books and other memorabilia. Family and friends are all welcome. For more information, contact Carolyn Johnson at 865-457-3076 or by e-mail at <mamawcarolyn@peoplepc.com> or Marie Guy at 865-457-2423.

    1. Eagle Family Cemetery
    2. Arion Cole
    3. Hello members, We have been searching for the location of the Wm S Eagle farm in Claiborne County, Tn. Supposedly deeded to him by his son, James Solomon Eagle in the year of 1896 (D. B. 14, page 221). This land was located on what is now HWY 33, about one half mile east of Cedar Flats Church. and is near the Hancock County line. This land was located in the 7th civil district of Claiborne County. Campbell Stapleton and his wife, Nancy Stapleton, owned a farm up the hollow from this Eagle Farm. Wm S Eagle had established a family cemetery on his farm. When Nancy Eagle Stapleton died in 1896, soon after the birth of her youngest son, James Edward Stapleton. she was buried in this cemetery. The same was true of their son, John, who died in 1918 during WWI. Campbell Stapleton (from our research and others) died in 1924 and is buried there also. We have read that this cemetery contains a single tombstone that of James Solomon Eagle, placed there by his son, Clarence Eagle. Possibly some one is familiar with some of these names and or places. Thanks for your help. Jean and Arion Cole.

    1. Death Index's.
    2. Does anyone have any vital records or death indexes for Claiborne County for the period 1946 and latter? I am desperately searching the death record of my great grandfather, William Shoop, who lived in Claiborne County from 1891 until his death, or at least I assume he died there. The last I find him is in the 1930 census. He is living with his son Marion. I have searched through 1946 and have had no luck finding him. William was born in 1854 in Kentucky so I know living past 1946 would have been a streatch but some of the Shoops/Shoupes lived to a older age than lots of others. In the census records the name is always spelled Shoop but it is spelled several other ways by the family, ie: Shoupe, Shoup, Shupe and of course each could always have an "S" as the ending. I would appreciate any and all help with this search. Thanks, Jerry Philpot.

    3. While Lee County did keep birth registers, the Virginia State Library shows 1865 as being among the missing years: http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/vital/BMDregisters/BMDregisters-L-O.htm On 6/18/06, A Hurst <Ahurst1@zoominternet.net> wrote: > > Elizabeth Amanda Abshire b. 3. In Tennessee, there were no birth or death records recorded until in the 1900s. You don't know how we wish there were. Her death record may have her father's name on it. Check death certificates of her siblings too, assuming they had the same father, which I'm sure you know, may not be a valid assumption. I am wondering if any one who has a copy of the birth book could see who is listed as being born on that date - Feb. 20 1865 and if not too many - let me know who.
