    3. A few years ago I made some copies of old photos that a relative had. At the time, I had no idea who some of these people were, but now as my genealogy has been fleshed out, I know how they fit. I have a photo of the following people that I'd be glad to share. Josephus (Josiah)called "Ceph" Hatfield b 1870 Claiborne Co., Tn. Wife Lucy Bussell Hatfield Their sons Craton Hatfield and Walter Hatfield (look to be maybe 3 and 5). Ceph's parents, Walter C. Hatfield b Jan 1828 and Mary Polly Hurst b Oct 1829. Her parents, not pictured, were Andrew Hurst and Mahala Claxton (Clarkson). I also have a photo of Mahala. Mahala's parents were James Lee Claxton (Clarkson) and Sarah Cook. Walter had a full white beard and is wearing a large black hat. Given the apparent ages of the children, the photo appears to have been taken about 1900. Bobbi Estes

    3. This is to Kathy and A. Hurst, The State of Tennessee, for the most part, did not start keeping birth records until 1908. The 4 largest counties, Davidson, Shelby, Knox and Hamilton County, kept earlier birth records locally. It has been my experience by doing researching the birth records that up until about 1925-1930 they birth and even death records were not kept very well and there were a lot of people who were born and died in Tennessee that did not receive an official record. Also, no one was issued a birth or death record in the year 1913. Hope this answers your question.
