Attention Teachers and those of you that know Teachers! The Civil War Preservation Trust has a program that they call Adopt A Battlefield. Materials are adaptable to suit the age, interest and skill level of students as well as time available for the program. Any teacher can request a kit either by e-mailing Jennifer Rosenberry, Education Coordinator at: jrosenberry@civilwar.org or contacting her by phone at 1-800-606-1400, Ext. 204. Each kit includes: Student Preservation Oath, Teacher Preservation Goal form, Union and Confederate paperwork and soldier service records, activity idea sheets, a two week Civil War Curriculum CD-ROM, and much, much more. The soldier paperwork and service records allow students to take on a "Civil War identity" as they learn the fate of their adopted soldier. I'm making this short, but if anyone would like to read the whole announcement I'll be happy to send it to them. Volume II of the PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF CLAIBORNE COUNTY 1801-2005 (on page 253) has information on BROOKS. Armstead Brooks, b. 1796, d. 1841 Claiborne Co., married Nancy Harrison 1823, is listed as the son of Bartholamew Brooks of Prince Edward county, VA. Does anyone researching this line have documentation as proof of this relationship (Armstead as son of Bartholamew)? The date of Armstead's marriage to Nancy Harrison is listed as 21 Mar 1823. What is the source of this date? The Claiborne Co. Marriage Registers begin with 1838. I would like to hear from Brooks researchers who have this information. Who is the Rhoda Anderson, age 56, born in SC, on the 1850 Claiborne County Census? She is living right there next to our Ellison and Lynch families also from SC. She is also listed as a member of the Davis Creek Church. Does anyone know her maiden name and lineage? Thanks Beverly Ellison Nelson
