I am going to try to copy and paste an Excel spread sheet here. It is a list of men that I typed from a long muster roll sheet of Colonel William Lillard of Cocke County, Tennessee. He formed a company of men under the command of Captain William Hamilton and I believe most, if not all, of these men were from Claiborne County. If you don't get a good listing, or if it a jumbled up list, privately email me and I can forward to you as an Excel sheet attachment. Hope this helps someone. If you find your ancester here then you may want to inquire about any pension files that may be on file at the National Archives. As time went along, of course, all these other states and counties formed from Botetourt. Dozens of counties in Virginia and West Virginia were carved from it, similar to it's northern adjacent sister county, Augusta. The marriages that survived in the early part are significant also in the location of the courthouse because it falls in the migration path for a lot of the settlers that eventually came to northeast Tennessee. The county today is in the north mid-section of the state and is in the Blue Ridge / Appalachian mountain region. It can easily be found by doing a search on the internet. Botetourt County (The correct spelling) is located in Virginia. My Waddle (That was the spelling way back when) family line came from the county, and settled in the South-Central Kentucky area. Dee, Yes, I had seen this marriage before. Joseph Hamilton & Sally Damrel (sic), bonded 11 Mar, 1800; bondsman Ezekiel Williams; Christopher Damrel (sic) testified Sally is over 21. Do you know the relation of Joseph Hamilton to James Hamilton that married Elizabeth "Betsy" Wear? Joseph and Betsy Hamilton had a daughter named Sarah Parker Hamilton, born ca 1800. This Sarah was married to my ggg grandfather, Isaac Van Bebber, Sr., in 1839 in Claiborne County. They had one daughter that died young. I have some information somewhere in my notes on Christopher Dameron. There were other related marriages in this family. Let me know if you have other information on the Hamilton/Dameron families. Phillip, Hi. I show marriages on the Horn female as: Anna Horn to Jesse Howell, 1804. Mary Horn & Jonathan Richison, 1816. Mary Horn & Henry Summers 1805. Rebecca Horn & William Vineyard 1811. John Horn & Nancy Sheets 1815. Jordan Horn & Rebecca Austin, 1833 William Horn & Nancy Harris, 1825. I show no Shuff's or Tussey's. Let me know if you want the particulars of any of the above HORN marriages. Although they are all after 1800, I can copy and send you the details if it helps. Do you show any Tussey, Shuff, or Horn marriages before 1800? There should be few if any. Thanks. The titles are Botetourt County Marriages, 1770-1853, Vols 1 and 2, by Vogt and Kethley. I can do a lookup for anyone with an ancestor in that county in that time period. Volume 1 is men and Volume 2 is women. At one time this county was very large and has had some 44 other counties carved from it since the creation of it in 1770 from the southern portion of Augusta County.
