    1. Re: [TNCLAIBO] WALKER
    2. Phillip Walker
    3. Austin was not a son of John Calhoun Walker. His parents were: Melbourn Green Walker, born 3 January 1863 at Walker's Ford on the Claiborne County side, Tennessee, died 8 January 1953 most likely in Coleman County, Texas. He's buried in Burkett Cemetery there. He was a doctor and moved to Texas in 1903. His wife was Nannie E. Mountain, born 1 September 1867 in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia. They married 6 December 1885 in Claiborne County and had nine children. Nannie died 25 January 1923 and is buried with Meb, as he was called. Nannie was the daughter of Campbell C. Mountain and Alicia Phoebe Helms. Austin, as you noted, was born 19 January 1887, and although New Tazewell is the current postal name for the area, technically they lived at Head of Barren in Claiborne County when he was born. Austin married twice, the second wife being a Thomas, which is probably how that name creeped in. His first wife was Martha Virginia Prudence Sharrock, born 16 September 1872 in Whitesboro, Grayson County, Texas, and they were married 19 November 1913 in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma. She died 17 April 1920 near Wilson in Carter County, Oklahoma, and is buried in Hewitt Cemetery there. She and Austin had no children together, and she was the daughter of Alfred Newton Sharrock and Anna Maria Thompson. Austin's second wife was Chessie M. Thomas, and they married in Munday, Knox County, Texas, on 30 July 1921. They moved to Big Spring in Howard County, Texas, where Austin died 26 March 1935. Chessie lived until 26 February 1960 and died at 601 Caylor Drive in Big Spring. Both are buried in Mount Olive Cemetery in Big Spring. They had two children, Clayton Gilmore Walker and Nannie Elizabeth Walker, but I'm guessing that you know about them. I have quite a bit of information about them and their children as well as Meb's other children, his siblings, and his ancestry. In fact, I suspect I already have your immediate family listed. I am rather distantly related; Meb's father was a younger brother of my gg grandfather Jacob Shuff Walker, but I have absurd amounts of data on all the Walkers of the area, and I'm happy to share whatever you might want. Quickly, Meb's ancestry: His father was John Gilmore Walker, born 29 November 1834 on Mulberry Creek in Claiborne County (now Hancock County); in fact, the house is still standing, and John carved his name into it. He died 23 March 1928 at Walker's Ford on the Union County side and is buried in Yadon Cemetery nearby; on 11 September 1856 in Claiborne County, he married Lucinda Atkins, who was born 1 March 1838 probably in Grainger County, Tennessee, and died 5 May 1913 probably at Walker's Ford, Union County, and is buried with John. Lucinda was a daughter of Morris Atkins and Lucinda Peak, and I have a little information on that side. John Gilmore Walker's parents were Edward Walker, Jr., a War of 1812 veteran born 7 September 1795 probably in Sullivan County, Tennessee, died 9 April 1860 on Mulberry Creek; it's actually his house from about 1818 which is still standing. J.G. was a son by his first wife, Mahala Tussey, who was born 29 December 1793 probably in Sullivan County, died 28 December 1844 on Mulberry Creek. Both are buried behind the house and, as of a few months ago, the graves are finally marked after all these years. J.G. was the 8th of the first set of 10 children; Ned had four more by his second wife. Edward Walker, Jr., ("Ned") was a son of Edward B. Walker, born 1756 in North Carolina, died 26 August 1838 in Claiborne County, Tennessee, (possibly just over the modern Hancock County border). He married about 1 May 1790 in Sullivan County Tennessee Jane Horn, a daughter of Frederick Horn; Jane was born about 1772 and died sometime between 1845 and 1850; the locations of their graves are not known. Edward served as a private in the Revolution. Mahala (Tussey) Walker was the daughter of Jacob Tussey, born perhaps about 1753 in Pennsylvania, died about 1827 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. He married Jane Shuff, born sometime in the 1760s, perhaps in Maryland, died in the 1830s probably in Claiborne County (now Hancock). As I said, I'm happy to share whatever may interest you; I have a picture or two of John Gilmore Walker although not his wife, and I have far more data than anyone probably wants to know :-) You can contact me directly at phillip.walker@gmail.com. 3. Possibly. There's a George Campbell, Private, Company A, 63 Tennessee Infantry (Fain's Regiment 74 Tenn Infantry). Company A was the same company in which Johnathan Walker was a sergeant and Doctor C. and Timothy S. Campbell were privates (and died in service). There were other Campbells in the unit as well, which might give you more clues; I don't seem to have George's parents unless you've sent them in an old message. The full roster is at the end per a now-defunct Web site. Johnathan Walker was a son of Edward Walker, Jr. and Mahala Tussey. The Campbells I mentioned were sons of Eldridge Campbell and Sarah Walker, Sarah being a daughter of Edward's brother Joseph and Eldridge being the son of Jacob Campbell and Temperance Rice. 63rd TN Infantry Co.
