Hi everyone, Well, our 37/37 match with the gentleman in Claiborne Co. is now a 67/67 match. It doesn't get much better than that. But we still don't have a paper trail to go with the genetic match. Are there any pre 1838 marriage extant? Where would be the best place to look for any records for Claiborne Co. pre 1830? Thanks, Sharon Bryant
Is anyone on the list researching the Thomas line? I have quite a bit of info, and of course, need more. Frank Taylor

I extraced this from the Lee County Pioneer book. If you descend from this Moore family, please contact me. Roberta Estes The Moores emigrated from the British Emplire to America in the first half of the 17th century and settled in Eastern Va, eventually in what is now Prince Edward Co. Benjamin Moore is the first known of the branch of this Moore family. One Benjamin Moore took the oath of overseer of the poor in April 1789 court in Prince Edward Co. There is no proof that this is the Benjamin Moore who is the ancestor of the Lee Co. Moores. Evidence indicates that a Benjamin Moore was in Henry Co Va during the Rev. War period. Benjamin Moore was in Williamson Co. in 1820 when he made a deed to David Moore of Lee Co. Va. of a negro Nelly. David Moore, son of Benjamin was born 1776-77, according to the 1850 and 1860 census, so Benjamin must have been born in 1756 or earlier. David Moore came to Lee Co., Va. in the early 1800s or before where he married before 1804 to Sarah Cox, widow of William Cox. Their children were: * Sarah Moore m George Washington Ball * Thomas Moore b 1807 * Mary Jane Moore b 1813 m 1838-39 to Benedict Years * Jerusha Moore b 1815 called "Rusha" m abt 1838 to Alexander Harris, a Methodist minister from Harlan Co. * Ruth Moore b 1819 m 1838 to Elisha Hobbs * Nathan H. Moore m 1844 in Claiborne Co to Sarah Ann Thompson * Elizabeth Moore m Nathan Laman *1 below * Thomas Moore (oldest son of David) b 1807 d 1885 m abt 1854 to Lucinda C. b 1823 according to the 1850 census *2 below *1 - On Nov 7 1865 Nathan Laman and Elizabeth his wife formerly Elizabeth Moore of Union Co Tn sold all of their undivided interest in a tract of land belonging to her father David Moore Sr. lying and being in the county of Lee Co Va. between Powell Valley and Powell River and near the waters of 4 mile creek and known as the David Moore farm from the place where David Moore lived and died upon and we hereby convey the said undivided for $140 to James P. Brooks. *2 - Thomas Moore's will 1883, children: Joseph W. Moore Robert R. Moore Nathan H. Moore Ozina E. Parrott Sarah J. Parrott Sarah Cox Moore died and David remarried to Susanna Debusk. David Moore and his second wife Susanna Debusk had additional children: * Abner Moore b 1821 m Nancy Jane Brooks * Martha B Moore b 1825 m James P Brooks in Claiborne Co * David Moore Jr born in the 1820s married in 1853 Adline Jane Noe (children Jerone B b 1854 m Mary Ball moved to Kansas, Clinton Moore 1 1856 m a Marcum, Amanda, Charles S. Moore) * Martha Jane Moore b 1829 m Sidney M. Brooks - there is some doubt about this child * Samuel Moore b 1831-32 left Lee co and moved to Pulaski Co Ky In 1868 there is a deed between Thomas and his wife Lucinda Moore, BM Years and Jane his wife, Rutha Harris, Ruth Brooks, Sidney Brooks and Marthy Jane his wife, and Samuel Moore, the first 3 parties of Lee co., the 4th and 5th of Claiborne Co in Tn and the last of Pulaski Co Ky sell to James P. Brooks the land that descended to us from our father David Moore being the lands he resided on at his death in Lee Co. Va. on 4 mile Creek
Does anyone have Claiborne County families moving from Claiborne County to Macoupin County, Illinois (Carlinsville area), in the late 1820s, possibly stopping in Kentucky and Indiana on the way? I'm tracing a likely suspect for William Walker, born 1792, and his wife Margaret (maiden name unknown), born about 1784 in Virginia. William was probably born in Sullivan County and probably married there but went to Claiborne County by 1816 when the rest of the Walkers settled on Mulberry/Little Sycamore/Hoop Creek. In 1830, he was in Macoupin County, but both a child and a grandchild were born earlier that year in Indiana. A child born about 1829 was born in Kentucky, but all children up to 1826 were born in Tennessee, at least some provably in Claiborne County. -- Phillip A. Walker phillip.walker@gmail.com

I am cleaning out my genealogy files and posting things that may be of interest to others. Many of these items are not my direct line, but are from correspondence with others over the years who are from the name family name, or researching the same area. I do not vouch for any accuracy. Back in the 1980s and early 1990s, I corresponded with a Evelyn Williams regarding the Dodson and Hitson family of Halifax and Claiborne Co. Tn. I am summarizing what she sent to me. This is not my line, although at the time I thought it was. She indicates that Alexander Hitson (Hittson) married Rhoda Dodson and that she was the daughter of Second Fork Thomas Dodson of Halifax Co. Va. She says she also descends from Thomas Hitson and his sister is Elizabeth Hittson who married George Dodson, son of Thomas Dodson who in 1823 bought 75 acres on the waters of Clinch River. On a group sheet, she shows Alexander Hittson married on Nov 20 1786 in Halifax Co to Rhoda Dodson and gives Halifax Co Marriage bonds page 97 as her source. She also gives the Pitts Co marriage bonds as a source too. She included page 195 from the Dodson's of Farnham Parish book by Silas Lucas and noted that person 1364, George Dodson is the person who married Elizabeth Hittson She gives their chldren as: Richard married Drucilla Stubblefield. Sallie married Dec 14 1795 in halifax to William Alderson. Thomas b abt 1792 married Martha Patsy Tucker dec 27 1810 in halifx died abt 1876 and was living with Arch and Sarah Legere in the 1870 census in Hancock Co. Tn. Elizabeth born abt 1789 married march 8 1814 to George Dodson (son of Thomas) and died in Big Spring in Hancock Co. Tn. about 1872 Berryman was a bachelor. Mary (Polly) b abt 1797 married 1820 in halifax to beverly Mays Jr, page 133 Alexander Jr b abt 1796 married Jan 18 1821 in Pittsylvania Co page 125 to Jemima (Mary) Jane Motley Jesse born 1801 married Polly Beck and is buried in the Hittson cemetery near Mineral Wells Texas. Nancy married Feb 3 1824 in Pittsylvania Co Va page 41 to Jonas Chainey. She says that she set a cemetery stone for Thomas Hittson in the Legear family cemetery in Hancock Co Tn. Argle Winkl, Rt 4 in Sneedville is a descendant of the Legere family. She says that 4 Hittosn children came as a young family to Claiborne and Hancock Co. 1. Richard Hittson settled in Howard's Quarter. 2. Thomas Hittson b 1792 and Patsy his wife lived where Highway 25E and HWY 33 intersects on the road to Sneedville, by his sister Elizabeth Hittson Dodson and George Dodson. Thomas Hittson and his wife later lived at themouth of Snake Hollow road on land (60 acres) his son David Hittson bought for them in 1856. Later he lived at Big Creek in hancock. When his wife Patsy Tucker Hittson died he moved in with his neice Nancy Dodson Sutton and Nathan Sutton on the 1860 census of Hancock Co., Tn. By 1870 he was lviing with Arch Legere and Sarah and it was there he died in 1876. She says he was the great-great grandparents of Argle Winkler. 3. Elizabeth Hittson married George Dodson and they had 4 daughters. He is probably buried in the Rose cemetery in an unmarked grave. She lived near the intersection of 25 and 33 near the Rose cemetery. Daughters are Alsey who married Drewry Lawson and had Wilham J.K. Lawson. Frances Jane born 1820 and married Lunmch Hatfield. Nancy born 1821 married Nathan Sutton and she is buried at Lawson Cemetery. Lizzie born 1834 and we don't know who she married. 4. Mary Polly Hittson b 1797 married in 1820 in halifax to Beverly Mays and they had 2 daughters, Elizabeth who married a Bray and Sarah who married Archibald Leger. Children of Drewry Lawson b 1816 m 1837 to Alsey Dodson b 1818 d Jan 5 1855 from census and info from Argly Winkler: William JK b Jan 12 1842 married Dec 20 1860 in hancock to Louisa AE barnard and then to Elizbeth bnetty legear. Does anyone know what happened to the magazine East Tennessee Roots? I tried their web page and it says it's being reworked and come back later. I tried to e-mail an old e-mail address and it bounced. Unfortunately, I have a scattering of them and I'd like to fill in the holes. Does anyone know anything about this publication? When did it end, assuming it ended? Anyone who wants to get rid of their old ones, I'd be interested. Bobbi Estes

Hi Kerry and all, I don't see a Pardue surname DNA project, but four people with your surname have tested at FamilyTreeDNA. So you could either start a project to take advantage of discounts or test through a geographical project. You might look at the Cumberland Gap Project at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/CumberlandGap%2DYDNA/ You might also look for Pardue on FTDNA's www.mitosearch.org but that service is down right now. Try later. I've taken the 67-marker test, but 37 might be a good place to start. The Cumberland Gap Project Administrator may want to comment on that. Hello Vera, No, I have no idea who Mary Brooks' parents were. Wish I did. We only know Mary's last name because it was on her daughter, Coley Malicoat's, death certificate. Sharon
Hello Nelda, I left out an important word. I should have said "my brother and our GENETIC cousin..." I certainly consider anyone who matches my brother 37/37 markers to be a cousin. Yes, we have a paper trail to Ransom Day. Our genetic cousin has a paper trail to Ambrose Day. We are trying to find a paper connection between Ransom and Ambrose. Thanks, Sharon
I want to take DNA test to help in my family history. I am male. Mothers side is Singleton-Faulkner-Hipsire-West-Douglas (TN-KY) Fathers side is Pardue-Goodrich (NC-IL- IN-VT) Which test do I take I was thinking either 37 or 67 marker test but not sure how to go about this and how do I compare to other family members or trees? Please some advise
Sharon, I have a Mary Brooks in my family. Can you tell me who her parents were? Veva Dale Brooks Bailey Hi Sharon, You say your brother and your cousin DNA tested then you list: Ransom Day and Mary Brooks"s children only showing one male child... So since the tests were Y-DNA tests both are descendants of the one male child. have either of the tested males have actual paper trail (documents) to Ransom Day? Y-DNA is so very interesting... Good luck with recuitment.
