    1. Re: [TNCLAIBO-L] Billie M. Walker Obituary
    2. Phillip Walker
    3. Always glad to see these. For the record, I'm distantly related at best, but Billie, according to my records at least, is: Billie Martin Walker, born 8 October 1928, died 16 September 2004, married, as best I know, Mavis Harmon (born about 1930), someone named Sue (born about 1945), someone named Thelma (born about 1935) and then Beverly Humphrey as named in the obit, born about 1940. The only children I know are by Thelma, which include Terry, David, Billie Jr., Gaye, Joseph, and Kaye; I do not know the other children in the obit. Billie was a son of Bascum Baldwin Walker (born 8 April 1879, Hancock County, Tennessee, died 17 July 1953, Steedman, Callaway County, Missouri) and Pearlie Emiline Mannon (born 18 March 1889, Hancock County, died 17 September 1976, Columbia, Boone County, Missouri). Pearlie, as best I know, was the daughter of Catherine Elizabeth Mannon and Joseph Thomas. Bascum Balwin Walker was the son of William Walker (born ca. 1851 probably in Hancock County, died about 1895 of a suspected poisoning) and Rebecca Ann Baker (born 17 March 1849 in Claiborne County, died 11 August 1916 in Hancock County). Rebecca Ann Baker was the daughter of Thomas R. Baker (born ca. 1814, died before 1870) and Lucinda Campbell (born ca. 1822, died after 1 June 1880). William Walker was the son of Edward Walker, Jr., (born 7 September 1795, Sullivan County, died 9 April 1860, near Mulberry Gap, Hancock County) and Sara Crumley (born 28 September 1813, probably Mulberry Gap, Claiborne now Hancock County, died 11 January 1898, Newport, Cocke County, Tennessee). Lucinda Campbell's parents were apparently Jacob Campbell (born ca. 1800, died ca. 1880 in Collin County, Texas), and Temperance Rice (born ca. 1800, died after 1880 in Collin County, Texas). Edward Walker, Jr., was the son of Edward B. Walker (born 1756, North Carolina, died 26 August 1838 near Mulberry Gap, Claiborne now Hancock County, Tennessee) and Jane Horn (born about 1772, died between 26 January 1845 - 24 August 1854, probably near Mulberry Gap.) 2. Rand Cardwell
    3. Bob, I think we exchanged a couple of emails earlier this year. I've recently returned home from business in the Middle East and thought that folks might be able to help with the information that I had compiled on the Claiborne County Cardwell Clan. There are references that two of the men served in the Rev. War, but it appears that both died prior to making an application for pension.... actually, prior to the point that the law was passed. That leaves only family verbal tradition to state that they were soldiers during the conflict. I have researched their names in the available records in Virginia, but there were several men with the same names (John and Thomas) and it makes it rather difficult to determine actual service. Doubt that I could make it into the Sons of the Rev on any of those records, but I do have a solid line back to Elisha Wallen that should do the trick! Anyway, take care and let me know if there is any additional information that you need concerning John and Thomas Cardwell. If you'll go to the website all the info (pictures of my grandma's quilts, contact address, etc.) for the raffle is available. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tncctca/index.htm If you haven't visited the website before be sure to check out all the before and after pictures of some of the Cemeteries they've cleaned up recently. Also, I'd like to mention that when I was back visiting a few months ago Joyce took me to the Pinnacle at Cumberland Gap. The ranger station there has a gift shop and has several quilts for sale.....my Grandma Cleo's are just as nice as those and the least expensive one was selling for upwards of $1,200 (not a typo) on up to $2,400 depending upon their size. These are real pieces of art as far as I'm concerned but I'm prejudice! <G> Please help them out, last time I checked they had almost enough to cover the cost of buying the quilts and the whole object is to raise MORE and put the funds towards Cemeteries in dire need. 3. Rand: Just a quick glance tells me there is some excellent info on early settlers of Claiborne co. on this site. The General Joseph Martin TNSSAR Chapter is in the process of collecting bios of Rev. War Patriots buried in the Gap area. I am sure that this site will be helpful. At some point in the future, we will publish these, but we are in no rush as we don't want to leave any out. Bob Hughes, Sec./Trea. General Joseph Martin TNSSAR Chapter
