Dr. John C. Boyd was born ca 1801 in VA. According to "Picturesque Clarksville, Past and Present", he lived many years in Clarksville, TN but moved to Mississippi where he died. Wives; (1) Martha Hopson married 1820, died 1833 Clarksville, TN. One known child, Wilmoth who married Henry Bailey. (2) Mary Jane Chilton married 1834, Clarksville, TN. One child, Bella, born ca 1835. Mary Jane and Bella were living with her brother, W. L. Chilton on the 1850 Census of Montgomery Co. TN. Brothers; (1) George C. Boyd Attorney died TN ca 1849 (2) Dr. Edward Boyd died KY ca 1848 I have not been able to find any record of the death of Dr. John C. Boyd in either TN or MS. My last record of him is on the 1850 Census of Madison, Co. MS. My great-great grandfather, Marcus D. Boyd, was born ca 1822, TN. He married Sarah J. Ballentine in Montgomery Co., TN in Feb. 1850. He named his first son, John C. Boyd, which according to normal naming patterns should have also been the name of his father. My great grandfather, John C. Boyd, was born in TN ca 1850 and Married Nancy Hall in Montgomery Co. in 1877. They are listed on the 1850 census of Cheatham Co. I think it very unlikely that Dr. John C. and Martha Boyd would have had only the one child and that my great-great grandfather, Marcus D. Boyd, could have been another one of their children. Any assistance in identifying other children of Dr. John C. and Martha (Hopson) Boyd and/or locating any records of the death of Dr. John C. Boyd would be greatly appreciated. <ed.boyd@cwix.com>
