    1. Re: [TNCHEATH-L] Cheatham County Courthouse
    2. In Cheatham County you will find that most records have been moved to what is now called "The Tucker Building" or perhaps more correctly "The Tucker/Empson Building" The Register of Deeds, the County Court Clerk, the County Trustee, the Building Commissioner and the Tax Assessor's office are in this building. It will be across the street from MacDonalds and between the School Board Building and Sterlin Marlin Chevrolet. Or right at the only 4way stop signs on Main Street. (The redlight there hasn't worked in several years. The Courthouse now houses mostly offices dealing with legal matters i.e. The Chancery Court and Circuit Clerks, the jail, sheriff's office, the emergency management office, etc. You are invited to come to the office of the Cheatham County Historical and Genealogical Association (CCHGA) which is located at 233 North Vine Street (the basement of the Cheatham County Library on North Main Street) There you will find most of the early records/archives of Cheatham County including early/old marriage records. The office number there is 792-3623 but the blamed answering machine is on the blink. The CCHGA office is normally staffed between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. CCHGA's e-mail address is: cchga007@bellsouth.net but you better send me a copy at: the above address cause no one knows how to get to the e-mail on the computer but me - the ladies that staff the office are afraid of it. (That is not a 'put-down' - I'm working on 'em) Rsp, Jim Allen Stamp4Me@aol.com wrote: > Am getting ready to visit Ashland City and Clarksville and am wondering what > kind of information is available at the county courthouses?
