    3. Last night, a porn spammer attempted to hit all of the Rootsweb mailing lists that I maintain. The Smartlist program at Rootsweb was successful in blocking them all. If anyone received this trash and it was addessed to one of the lists, please let me know. I received one also addressed not to me but to all on my ISP. I sent my copy, as I do all such things to the FTC. Ted List Keeper

    1. [TNCHEATH-L] Carney in Cheatham Co.
    2. jsanders
    3. Hello Robert Carney - Have you tried "The Deserted Sycamore Village of Cheatham County" by Lois Barnes Binkley" Some Binkley information in it might help. My Kearneys (spelled various) were from the same area as yours - William b. 1815, Washington, and Jack Kearney - all brothers who lived on the Kentucky/Tennessee border in and out of Davidson Co. William and Washington moved to Williamson Co., Illinois by 1850 (along with many Saunders/Sanders and others). Any connections with these names? In my line I have Binkleys and Lees married in with Kearneys and Saunders/Sanders, and since my line is from the same area as your in the same time period, there is probably a connection. Do you have any other Kearney info? Thanks - Jane Sanders

    1. [TNCHEATH-L] Cheatham Surname-Carney
    2. Robert I. Carney
    3. Hello Cheatham County researchers: I'm seeking data on the ancestors and descendants of William CARNEY and his siblings. Four Carney men were well established in Davidson Co., TN by the year 1799. Elijah Carney and Vincent Carney bought land on Dry Fork Creek the same day (6 Jun 1809). John Carney and William Carney both bought land on near-by Marrowbone Creek in February 1812. All four of these men were listed in Militia Companies of Davidson Co. in 1812. Within a five-year period, 1802-1806, William, Elijah, and Vincent were married, indicating by their age bracket that they were probably brothers. William married Rebecca GULLEDGE; Elijah married Elizabeth C. GOLDSBERRY; Vincent married Polly GOLDSBERRY; Lucy Carney, their sister, married John BLACKBURN; another sister, Martha "Patsy" Carney, married Edward BLACKBURN. William, Elijah, and Vincent were listed in the 1820, 1830 (spelled KERNEY), and 1840 censuses of Davidson Co. A John Carney (Kerney) appeared with the other three in the 1830 census. Family records appear to substantiate the children of Elijah and Vincent. Most Carney researchers are reasonably certain that Asa, Jesse T., Joshua, and Ennis Braxton Carney were the male children of William Carney and his wife, Rebecca Gulledge. (Joshua Carney and his first wife Sina Paralee BINKLEY were my g-g-grandparents; Joshua's second wife was Judith Jane DEMONBREUN). In the 1840 Davidson Co. Census, these four men with ages between 20 and 40 years lived on property adjoining William's who was then between 60 and 70 years old. In the 1840 census William and Rebecca were living on Marrowbone Creek in Cheatham Co. with all of their male children nearby. He is not listed in the 1850 Census. Rebecca still resided at the homeplace with her sister, Tabitha Dar, at the time of the 1850 census. She disappeared from the census records after that date. As you know, in 1856 Cheatham Co. was formed from Davidson, Dickson and Montgomery Counties. The Marrowbone area is located at the border of Davidson and Cheatham counties; my Joshua Carney lived on 781 acres of land lying in Cheatham Co., Civil District No. 1, on the waters of Big Marrowbone Creek. 2. In a message dated 9/5/98 9:01:46 AM Central Daylight Time, rcarney@erols.com writes: >(Joshua Carney and his first wife Sina Paralee BINKLEY were my g- g->grandparents; Joshua's second wife was Judith Jane DEMONBREUN). >> Hello Bob, My grandmother was a Carney. Lockie Carney Simpkins of the Marrowbone area. :-) I'm looking at a "Descendants of John Baptiste Demonbreun" book and it lists a Joshua Carney married to a Judy Jane Demunbrun. Of course, this book dwells mainly with the Demonbreun side but here's the info I show under this listing. This book is difficult for me to follow: "Judy Jane was born about 1822 in Tennessee. She married Joshua Carney Oct 27, 1845 in Davidson County. He was born about 1816 in Tennessee. He died in 1885. THey had 10 children: Mary, about 1846 John S, about 1848 Joshua Thomas, July 1, 1850 d,June 29, 1928 JT, about 1851 Ennis B, about 1852 Joseph H, about 1854 Anis, about 1855 R F, about 1859 Hiram, about 1861 Marjrell D, about 1862 Information from Mildred Setters, 117 Imperial Point, Hendersonville, TN 37075 (12/92) The book says there is a problem in regards to the family. Joshua and Judy Jane were married Oct. 27, 1845. It says there are several children born before 1845. It could be assumed that there was a first wife, but the ages of some of the children are to close to that of Joshua's age of 31. These children are: Henry, age 15, born around 1835 Ely, age 15, born about 1835 Llavella, age 12, born about 1838 James, age 11, born about 1839 William, aage 9, born about 1841 Sinai, age 11, born about 1845 The book says they have made the assumption that the children born before 1845 and before are not hte children of Judy Jane and may not even be the children of Joshua. In addition we assume children born after 1846 to be those of Joshua and Judy Jane." _____________________ I'll have to look more closely at the book and see if I can figure out the lineage. There is no Elijah or Vincent, but then again, this is a book on Judy Jane's side of the family. Let me know if you think this is the family you are looking for. I'm sure others have researched the Carney side. I think my uncle on the Wayman side has,but from what I hear from my aunt, I may not want to approach him. :-) Good luck, Lori

    1. [TNCHEATH-L] Hi, I'm new to this!
    2. Randi Conklin
    3. Hi, I am researching my family from Cheatham County. My great grandparents were James Walton SMITH and Myra Frances ( BLANKS). I just found out Myra's siblings were Bill, John, Eeleck, Rufus, Mary, Lena, and Royce. Their parents were Henry and Eliza ( RHINHEART) BLANKS. Henry was the son of David C. and Mary ( WALKER) BLANKS. The children of James Walton SMITH and Myra F. ( BLANKS) SMITH were: Willie Florence, Anna Bell, Fendrix, Rufus, Maggie Devona, Dewey, and Clayton. I have no information at all on James Walton SMITH and his parents or siblings. If anyone has any info on any of these people, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Thank You, R. Conklin

    3. I am glad to see the list being used. My name is Nola Duffy and I am researching Pegrams, Bells and related lines from Cheatham. I saw two connections on Sue's list, i.e. GUPTON and THOMPSON. I do not have anything on the GUPTON family but am looking for descendants of John H. Gupton and wife Sarah (or Cynthia) Bell. I show John being born in NC in 1822. As for the THOMPSON, my line is from early Surry Co., VA. and then Granville Co. (now Warren Co.) NC. I have that line back to mid 1600s in New England if that the line your line. I plan to put up a mini page on the Thompson family this weekend. Nola Pegram Duffy nduffy@patch.net http://www.patch.net

This is a listing of the extant original wills that were filed with the probate court. If you do not find the person you are seeking in the index it is still important to check the index for the Will Books as the original will may no longer exist. The link is on the main page at the URL given above. Go to the look-up page to find a link to the online Davidson County Marriages and for information on the records we can do lookups in. Also check our links pages for some very good links for Davidson Co., and Tennessee research. Thanks, Debie Friends of Metro Archives Web site. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/3661/
