The Hollis' came into Tenn first by way of Sumner and Mont. Issac, James , John , William were all there before 1798, They were among the first with the Donelson's and Robertsons. My wife is a once removed Hollis of the Cheap Hill , Cheatham Co. TN Hollis. She decends form John M Hollis (son of Isaac, son of James , who was the son of William. John M Hollis b 1796 married Mary_____, b abt 1801; Their Children: William Ralph(K) Hollis,Isaac Hollis, J. Henry Hollis; Jane Hollis; Andrew Hollis; Mary Elizabeth Hollis; and Johnathan Hollis; I am tracing both Isaac and J. Henry Hollis of which my wife decends. I have much information and would love to have much more. I have about 1000 names in data base for Hollis' in the four county area. I lived for many years in the West Cheatham area and know many of the present day Hollis Clan, even those who claim no kin. (even though they are!!!) I still have one line unconnected with mine, that is a family I call the James Travis Hollis line .James was born in 1866 but I can't connect him with mine even though they lived near each other. If you have Hollis lines in common I would love to share. I've collected Hollis material for over 5 years now, on any and all Hollis' I could find. Thanks Jerry --part0_910934858_boundary--

    1. [TNCHEATH-L] Uriah Samuel STACK Family
    2. Edward Carter
    3. This has already gone to Jim, Joyce and Sue by e-mail, but I forgot to copy the list for any other researchers who are following the exchange or who may want to follow it later. My great-grandmother was Florence Virginia Stack (1861-1916) who was married to Henry Warren Baggett (1853-1933) of Montgomery County. She was the daughter of Sarah Shearon and Uriah Samuel Stack. Known siblings include Nan, Mary and Lee. I haven't done any research on this line yet, so I was excited to see the surname appear on the Cheatham County roots list. I have information about the descendants of the this union, but almost nothing about Stack ancestors. I would love to hear from anyone who can coach me in the proper direction should I begin work on this line. It appears that Uriah Samuel Stack is the son of Barbara (?) and Adam Stack. [The following was not in my original e-mail] In addition, a friend pulled an 1850 Montgomery County census entry for me showing Jacob, Uriah, David, George and William listed after Adam and Barbara. It is assumed that they are all sons. Also listed in the 1850 census with this family are Catherine, age 22 and Elizabeth, age 10. Both were born in Tennessee; their ages are consistent with the birth order of the boys in the family. They are listed after the male children. It is unclear whether they are daughters or a daughter-in-law and granddaughter of Adam Stack. A second look at the census will give a hint as to whether the enumerator consistently segregated boys and girls when listing children. Finally, I think there are probably other children living outside the household in 1850. Although possible, it would be outside the norm for Adam and Barbara to have waited until they were in their thirties to start a family. It is always possible that this is a second marriage; however, it would still be likely that there are other children from the first marriage. Does anyone have estate records, or other sources to confirm this notion. I would appreciate your comments. Thanks, Edward Carter 821 East Burton Street Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37130 ecrb@msn.com

    2. Thank you very much Sue. The name of D. W. 's wife is what I was looking for. One of his former homes on Forrest Street in Ashland City is to be on the CCHGA Christmas Tour of Homes this year and the Mayor was doing some research on it as it now belongs to her daughter and is leased out. Now I need to know where the cemetery is that they are all buried in 'cause I can not find where it is recorded. Karen Martin, CCHGA member is attempting to record and re-record some of the cemeteries and would like this info I am sure. Many thanks Rsp Jim PS Current Superintendent of Cheatham County Schools is Jimmy Stack Sue Musette wrote: > Jim, Is your DW STACK the same as David W STACK b.1833, d.1916, son of > Adam and Barbara STACK? 3. Jim, Is your DW STACK the same as David W STACK b.1833, d.1916, son of Adam and Barbara STACK? My notes say that in 1879 David W STACK married Sarah (Sallie) S. Allen b.1846, d.1892. You probably are familiar with this. Edward Carter, it looks to me that your Uriah S. STACK b.1826, d.1901 is a brother of David W. STACK b.1833, d.1916. My notes say that Uriah is buried in the STACK-BAGGETT cemetery. Adam STACK b.ca.1790 came from South Carolina, as did my ancestor John STACK b.ca.1800. They certainly could be related, and we could all be cousins. It is also interesting that a Jacob STACK b.1801 was born in SC as well. So there was a STACK migration from SC to TN in the early 1800s. Does anyone have information about how these fellows are related? When I look at old SC records for STACKs, many were born in Ireland. I would certainly like to know more about this whole family. To me, the STACKS are such a puzzle. How to put this puzzle together?
