This was sent to me a query for the Cheatham County TNGenWeb site. I though it would be best to post it instead to this mailing list. Reply to the sender, please, and not to me: Is there someone who has access to the 1860 census for Cheatham county that would do a lookup for me? I need to know the information on a M.C. Catherine, I've checked my list and have most ot the names you mentioned. But I have followed a different sibling in both cases. HUNT James Hunt Sr and Mary Rackley had your William and also son John, born 24 May 1781 NC, he married Elizabeth Bryant, abt 1819; their child Dicy Ann Hunt,b 1823, m George W Shaw abt 1843; Their Child Thomas J Shaw, m. Rebecca L Murff; Their Son George Shaw married Lucy Ann Teasley; Their dau. Annie Shaw married D. Fox. The FOX family is the one I am working on now. They married into the Whitworth family by a sister of my GG Grandfather. James Hunt Sr and Mary Rackley also had a daughter named Lucy who married John Teasley, born 1755, They had a son John W Teasley Sr. b. 28 Dec 1788, who married Mary Hunter, in NC; Their child John W Teasley Jr. m Sarah Nicholson b. 1825; Their son Louis Scott Teasley married Melivina Tennessee ? Their dau. Leila Bell Teasley m. James Bailey BASFORD; I am tracing all Basford lines in this area. My greatgrandmother was Rebecca Lou Basford. The dau. of Zachariah Basford of Robertson, Cheatham Co. I have a little information on the parrents of James Hunt Sr above. >Henry, William>William>William. If you need more specific information I will send it (but it is not my research) GOWER: Now as for the Gowers, again we trace a different sibling. I have a Abel Gower Sr. who died in Davidson Co 1780. He came to TN on Donaldson flatboat. You list him as the II, I do not have his parents. I do have my Abel married to Mary ?, You have Mary Robertson, sister to James; I have the children of Abel Sr and Mary as the following: Russel, Charles, Engley, (m. Russell),Obedience, Elizabeth, Matthew,Able JR, David, and Nancy (m Moss). If their son Russell is your Rev. Russel who went to MO. we are still on the right track. BUT you have Russell's son listed as Robert born 1717, this is much to early a date for my Russel to have, to be your Russell. Also I do not have a Robert listed as a Child of Russell unless it is James who is listed as James R. Gower. I have Russel married to Charlotte ?. Their children were, Wilson, Joseph, Charlotte, Abel III, Nancy, Samuel (m. Koen), Elisha (m Patterson), William, (m. Crutchfield), James R. (m Evans) Wilson L above, son of Russell was born 1793, on Gower Island, in Davidson Co TN He married Charlotte Baird, 1812 and 2nd, Lucinda Page. 1820. Thier Children where. James Wilson, William, Shursey, Ephriam, Hiram, Larkin,(m Grimes. James Wilson Gower was a Free Will Baptist Minister and was married to Milly Head, the brother of George Head who was also a Free Will Baptist Minister. James and George and others were the founders of HEAD'S FREE WILL BAPTIST Church in Robertson Co. in the Gause Community. George Head gave the land , thus the Name "Head's" I descend from the Head family. George is a brother to my Hugh Head who were both sons of Robert Head It just so happens that I grew up in Head's Church and later became a Free Will Baptist minister now serving in Florida. I Have much more information on the lines of the Gowers. They married into my Head's several more times. The Wilson Gower bible is now in the Lib. of Head's Church and I used it along with Wilson Gower decendant information as well as other records to create this data. If you can use any of this and correct any I would appreciate it. Hope to hear from you soon, Jerry Whitworth Chipley FL. You wrote: Jerry , Thank you for getting back to me , I have just a little information on both those lines . My Hunt line is one I have had trouble with for years , James Hunt Sr. & Mary Rackley Hunt had William Nov. 1768 and I don,t have much information on him . He M; Frances (Franky) Lewis and had Mathew B;1813 (have nothing hardly on him ) The 1850 Robertson Co.(later Cheatham Co) census is the only information I have . He M: a French lady , Sampion Lesseldine F. Hudgins , (and you wrote) My Gower line was some of the first settling in Robertson Co. The oldest I have is Mary Robertson M; Abel Gower II (she was sister of James Robertson , who also M; a Gower , Abel,s sister ) but I don,t have much information on them . Abel,s son was Rev. Hi Sue,I have been looking at the 1850 Census today and i noticed That your ancestor John Stack appears to have been a "next door" neighbor to Adam Stack, father of D.W. & Uriah S Stack.Maybe Adam &John Stack were brothers or cousins? They are listed side by side on the 1850 TN Census in what was then Montgomery Co. I am finding more and more Stacks who lived and were buried in the Cheatham Co Area. What their realtionship to each other is is a mystery,at least some of them anyway. Thought i would let you know what i have found out anyway. Joyce.
There is now a mailing list for descendants of Robert Weakley (or anyone interested). WEAKLEY-ROBERT mail list: The purpose of this list is to promote exchange of information among descendants of Robert Weakley, a pioneer settler in Southern Virginia. He had three sons and one daughter, as follows: William, designated by the letter A, being the eldest, who it is believed never married; Robert, designated B, b. about 1720, m. Elinor Stewart; James, designated C, b. about 1728, m. Hannah Coffee; and Jean, designated D, b. about 1730, m. John Stewart. The authoritative source for the earliest information about these families is "The Southern Virginia Weakley Families and Their Descendants", the 500 page, handwritten book by Samuel Anderson Weakley, Nashville, Tennessee, 1963. Descendants of Robert Weakley are scattered all over Middle Tennessee, with a heavy concentration in Davidson, Cheatham, Dickson, Montgomery and Robertson counties, plus in about every other state in the USA. Members and friends of these families are invited and encouraged to participate in these discussions. One of our aims is to enlarge our family acquaintance and, perhaps in due time, to meet together in a family reunion. You can subscribe in "mail mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to WEAKLEY-ROBERT as a separate e-mail. (The directions on how to subscribe to digest mode are also given below.) . How to subscribe. Send a message to WEAKLEY-ROBERT-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains (in the body of the message) the command subscribe and no additional text. (If your email program requires it, use subscribe as the subject, too.) If you prefer the Digest mode (where several messages are bundled together into one email message) then you should change the -L- in the above address to -D- Nancy Goodman in TN (this note is going to several TN lists....please delete duplicates.)
I am sending this to the Cheatham Co. list, because so much of Cheatham Co., came out of Davidson Co. I am considering adding a new page to the Friends of Metropolitan Archives of Nashville and Davidson Co. web site and need some input. Would a page of links to family histories be helpful/wanted? The site/page content would have to show a very definite Davidson Co. connection. Tell me what you think about this and if you have such a page, send me the link so I can see what is available. Don't send me a link to someone else's web site, only your own. I will have to consult with the officers of the Friends Group about this idea. As you may know, there is no Goodspeed History for Davidson Co. The "History of Davidson County, Tennessee", by Prof. W. W. Clayton, was published about the same time as the Goodspeed histories were. Clayton's History contains biographical sketches of Davidson Co., residents. If anyone has text/biographies from Clayton's History, that could be emailed to me, I will consider putting that material on line also. Howdy, I think the following might be my great grandaunt and her husband however I am not completely certain. I can not locate a marriage for them so not sure where they married. I do know that Sarah was not listed in the household of her parents in 1850 so by that I am assuming they married before 1850. W.W. FELTS 55 S. FELTS 42 L.E. McCarren (F)23 M.A. McCarren (F)21 M.J. I'm looking here for a Reba Harris. She left a message on my machine last week and my daughter erased the message before I could write down her number. She was looking for info on the Binkley's. Reba, if you're here, please email me, or if one of you know her, please give her my email account. She said she'd tried to email me but was not successful. I think she has an old email address. Thanks much and sorry for the interruption. lori (harris hilliard)
Some months ago, someone was kind enough to send me the name of a lady in Cheatham Co. who had done some work on her Settle family. I believe it may have been published in a local family history book. If there is anyone on the list who knows who this might be or where I can get a copy of the Settle pages from the book, I would really appreciate it. She seems to have information that others do not have. Thanks, Nola Pegram Duffy nduffy@patch.net http://www.patch.net
