Jessie >> ============ Hi Jessie..... I hadn't contacted Mr. Sutherland (Editor at the TENNESSEAN newspaper) about whether they planned on putting the obits online at their website yet, but had intended to.....so you answered that question for me..... I did contact him last summer about the need for a genealogy column since the free one we had in the NASHVILLE BANNER was lost when that newspaper folded in Feb. 1998.....his response...so to speak.....was that "there is not enough interest in a genealogy column".....!!! On the matter of the obits themselves - the NASHVILLE ROOM at the Davidson County/Metro Public Library does index the names and the date of the paper for obits from the TENNESSEAN....but it just started, say, about 1968 or so (?)..... I do know you can call the NASHVILLE ROOM and request that a name be looked up if you think a person died during the time the indexing started until current dates.... If found, it will give ONLY the date of the TENNESSEAN and page number where the obit appeared.... Here is the online site for both the OBITS indexed at the NASHVILLE ROOM and also for the GROOM and BRIDE index of Marriages Recorded in Nashville, 1864-1905 Click here: Nashville Local History Indexes OPAC menu http://170.142.222.25:82/search/ Marriages Recorded in Nashville, 1864-1905 BRIDE GROOM Obituaries in Nashville Newspapers, 1977- NAME ======= Per a phone call to the NASHVILLE ROOM today....the lady said the obits started in 1964 and they are now working on putting the ones from 1966 - 1973 online..... They are up-to-date because I checked for an obit which was in yesterday's paper and it has already been included in the index. Hope this helps......I am sending to the other TN lists I am on for their information, too.... Nancy Goodman in Hendersonville, TN Email: Genny1@aol.com ------------------------

I have decided that it truly is worth posting to mailing lists. I was so pleased that someone found my Riggan post and made numerous connections through various Cheatham Co. families. Thought I would try again to see if anyone has the Hooper family in Cheatham Co. Looks like this Riggan family liked the Hooper family since there are three marriages between them. ___________ 1-Asa H RIGGAN (5 Oct 1821-3 Apr 1895) sp: Katherine Elizabeth GREER (27 Feb 1828-3 Apr 1895) 2-Frederick A RIGGAN (-) sp: Joseph DOZIER (26 Jan 1879-) 2-Martha J RIGGAN (1845-) sp: J B HOOPER (-) 2-Mary A RIGGAN (1848-) sp: Claiborne S HOOPER (1845-) 3-Euna Elma HOOPER (-30 Aug 1887) 3-Lonne HOOPER (-7 Oct 1876) 3-Willie HOOPER (-8 Jun 1872) 2-Sarah E RIGGAN (1852-) 2-William James RIGGAN (20 Apr 1855-5 Feb 1941) sp: Arminta P HOOPER (3 Feb 1863-29 May 1900) sp: Agnes RIGGAN? Having spent several days telephoning bookstores and checking with local publishers and searching most all internet activities that handle out of date and rare books; I now turn to the list on the chance that someone out there might have a copy of "Warm Hearts and Saddlebags" the Journal of the Reverend Jeremiah W. Cullom 1828-1915 that they might sell at a reasonable price. It is a blue cloth hrdback book, of 320 pages. >From the Editors Notes: Mrs. W. P. Wilson, Clarksville, owned the original manuscripts. The Tennessee Conference Historical Society published them in book form. James Reed Cox, Tennessee Conference Historian wrote the "Editor's Notes" apparently April 18th, 1968 in Nashville, Tennessee. I think all these married into my Morris family. I think Tommy Morris (brother to my Drury Morris) married a Sally Bowker. Tommy [Thomas Carter] Morris was a son of Rev. Holloway Morris of Dickson/Montgomery Co. I have a little info on Tommy's family that I would be glad to share. I think there are still descendants in the Charlotte area. Hi everybody...Just wanted to let you know that I have started a personal project of recording cemeteries located in Cheatham County and posting them to the Tennesee Tombstone Project website (TNGENWEB) at the following address: Cemetery Registration-Tennessee If any of you already have a complete listing of any of the cemeteries in Cheatham County, it would great if you would join me in trying to get a more comprehensive listing on the web for ALL to use in their research. These have to be records you have made personally and cannot be reprinted from anyone else's work. Maybe if we all joined this project, we could help out a lot of folks. I have a priority list of cemeteries and would appreciate anyone who wants to help with this to let me know so I'll be sure the work is not duplicated...because it is a lot of work, but very rewarding. I'd love to hear from you fellow Cheatham County researchers....Reba Harris (Granpiano@aol.com)

This is a neat site and would make a great link for the Cheatham Page. Unfortunately, our Cohost and Webmaster extraordinare has resigned and Jim Allen as Cohost, while possessing a modicum of knowledge regarding Cheatham History, is not computer savvy and able to create such links. If there is anyone on the list able and willing - it would be an excellent time to volunteer. Help! Rsp Jim Allen
