Hello, list... I am searching for information on the family of John W. Anthony COLLINS. He married Ella ADERHOLD and they had 9 children. I have her parents' names but not his. Nor have I ever found where any of them are buried. John COLLINS was killed in a duel in Doddsville in 1913. There was a big article about it in the Clarksville Leaf Chronicle but it didn't give his place of burial or any information about his family. Anyone out there know anything about this COLLINS line? Those of you who are researching the surname RUTHERFORD might be interested in the following information that was posted on GenForum: "Dear Fellow Rutherford Surname Genealogist: For those of you who have previously expressed an interest in obtaining a copy of the two-volume, hardbound set entitled "Genealogical History of the Rutherford Family" written by Kenneth and Anna Rutherford, please go to the website www.Rutherfordcpa.com to officially sign up for your copy. We are currently gathering enough pre-subscribers so that we can go to print. Anna Rutherford (one of the authors... she's 82 now!) has granted permission to have these books reprinted, but due to the enormous cost, we have to have at least 180 pre-subscribers at $150 per set. I also need your help!! I not only need you to sign up, but I need your family members, friends, associates, genealogical societies to sign up as well. The sooner we get 180, the sooner we can all get a copy of the set and move forward with our Rutherford research. Please sign up for multiple copies if you can!! Please do forward this email to anyone who would be interested in obtaining a copy. Who am I? I'm a fellow genealogist that wants a copy of this set so badly that I am willing to take on the massive project of corralling enough pre-subscribers to make the printing of this book happen." Thanks, Doug Rutherford, CPA Rutherfordcpa@hotmail.com www.Rutherfordcpa.com <A HREF="http://genforum.genealogy.com/rutherford/messages/1151.html">Rutherf ord Genealogical Books</A> http://genforum.genealogy.com/rutherford/messages/1151.html For further information about these books go to: www.Rutherfordcpa.com
I have an old picture that I'm wondering if anyone is interested in having. Handwritten on the back of the picture is: Wedding picture of Mrs. Paul Sherrey -- not sure of the spelling of the last name -- writing is hard to read. In parenthesis underneath this it says Mabel Empson. Made Springfield, TN Sept 23, 1916. Mabel later married Elijah (Lige) Washington Smith in Cheatham County, TN. If this woman is anyone's family member and you'd like to have this picture, please LMK. The picture is WONDERFUL, but it is not in very good condition. Christine
In Cheatham County you will find that most records have been moved to what is now called "The Tucker Building" or perhaps more correctly "The Tucker/Empson Building" The Register of Deeds, the County Court Clerk, the County Trustee, the Building Commissioner and the Tax Assessor's office are in this building. It will be across the street from MacDonalds and between the School Board Building and Sterlin Marlin Chevrolet. Or right at the only 4way stop signs on Main Street. (The redlight there hasn't worked in several years. The Courthouse now houses mostly offices dealing with legal matters i.e. The Chancery Court and Circuit Clerks, the jail, sheriff's office, the emergency management office, etc. You are invited to come to the office of the Cheatham County Historical and Genealogical Association (CCHGA) which is located at 233 North Vine Street (the basement of the Cheatham County Library on North Main Street) There you will find most of the early records/archives of Cheatham County including early/old marriage records. The office number there is 792-3623 but the blamed answering machine is on the blink. The CCHGA office is normally staffed between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. CCHGA's e-mail address is: cchga007@bellsouth.net but you better send me a copy at: the above address cause no one knows how to get to the e-mail on the computer but me - the ladies that staff the office are afraid of it. (That is not a 'put-down' - I'm working on 'em) Rsp, Jim Allen Stamp4Me@aol.com wrote: > Am getting ready to visit Ashland City and Clarksville and am wondering what > kind of information is available at the county courthouses? Family History Book-A message from Tom Knight Tom Knight forwarded the following e-mail to several individuals with Cheatham County interests and gives his permission to repeat it here: Good Morning All: I am hoping you have heard about the upcoming "all new" Cheatham County Family History Book, now being compiled by the Cheatham County Historical and Genealogical Society. Further, I am hoping you have submitted, or certainly plan to submit, at least one story about yourself and/or your Cheatham County Family to be included in this book. The story can be about anyone now living or has ever lived in Cheatham County, TN; that leaves a wide span to find someone to write about. In case you missed the announcement; you may submit an article of not more than 500 words and one picture to be included for "FREE". Now, where else can you find a bargain like that? But you need to hurry, as the deadline for submission is January 30, 2000. Send your story and picture to: Cheatham County History Book, 233 N. Vine Street, Ashland, TN 37015. *****Added note by Jim Allen - the Deadline has been extended beyond 30 January with no actual date specified but CCHGA would like to have as many as possible as soon as possible********* Thelma Heflin is the Book Committee Chairperson; her phone # 615-792-4106, in case you need further details. The Societys e-mail is cchga007@bellsouth.net No doubt Jim Allen will be checking the address for mail. *****Another Jim Allen Note - if you send it to cchga007@bellsouth.net include Jim Allen as a copy to at : allenjm@bellsouth.net******* The book is being offered for sale on a pre-publication basis only, for $52.50 plus $6.00 S&H. Be sure to send the money with your order. Whats my interest? Well, I have been helping put a similar book together for our Genealogical Society here in Laclede County, MO and I know it takes a bunch of stories to make a good book. Additionally, I promised my good friend Reba Harris that I would pass the word along to all those I know who have Cheatham County connections. You can do the same by urging your families, friends and neighbors to not be left out of this exciting book. Many Thanks,
To all you nice folks, including you, Jim Allen, I made a boo-boo in stating the Gazetteer as my reference for Mrs. Bosworth, school teacher at Sycamore Mills in Cheatham County. I found this reference to SCHOOLS in: Goodspeed's History of Cheatham County, Tennessee History Pages 1-28, or Index (Bosworth) pg 25 Incidentally, when I viewed this page to refresh my memory there is much more about the history of schools in Cheatham County. This begins on page 24. For those of you who have not visited this site recently much more has been added to the Cheatham Rootsweb Site. Also, to this particular page of Goodspeed's History on the schools. I am amazed at what Jim and Courtney have added to the Cheatham Home Page. Anyone interested in GOODSPEED HISTORY of other counties in Tennessee can go to this site & click on the county icon: http://www.rootsweb.com/tngennet.org/goodspeed To go directly to Cheatham County Goodspeed INDEX: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tncheath/goodspeedi.html Hoping to hear from more of you regarding the unknown MRS. BOSWORTH. Thanks. Ella RYMAN Hauser in Michigan
In the Gazatteer for Cheatham County there is an item regarding the first school. I believe it was in the Sycamore Mills area in the 1850's and there was a teacher, MRS. BOSWORTH. I would appreciate a lookup in these records of that school for this Mrs. Bosworth. The Bosworths in Mid-Tennessee are my ancestors I do not know of her identity. She was there when this school first opened. I understand it changed administrators, continued for a short while, then closed down. Thank you. Ella Ryman Hauser in Michigan ella@prodigy.net

A little over a year ago, the first part of a transcription from a family Bible found in Gibson County, TN was sent to this list. It was submitted by Vicky Hutchings and the Bible had information about Dozier, Lovell, Cullum and Hooper families. I've been anxiously awaiting the remainder of the transcription. Was the rest ever posted? I'd really love to know what else was in that Bible. Thanks Wade Glascock
Hello all, Reports of Viruses being attached to RootsWeb messages are FALSE. Read the below to see what is actually happeing, and be sure to not open ANY attachment without first checking with the supposed sender to see if they actually sent it, even if it looks like it came from someone you know. I just received one myself, supposedly from my husband, but using my email address instead of his as reply address. So who ever's computer is infected & sent it has our original email for him, but he now has his own. Since he is not subscribed to any rootsweb lists, it is impossible for his name to be on a message originating from rootsweb. Also, when I "view, properties, details" of the message with the attachment, it appears to have come thru my server (c2i2.com) but the next section says it came from jop.janics.com "Received: from mail.c2i2.com (jop52.janics.com [206.102.191.52])" whoever that might be. I am looking for the address of a funeral home that I believe was located in the Ashland City area in the 1970's. In reading over the obituaries of two of my relatives, I learned that in 1970, one of the funeral services was held at the Lockert Funeral Home. Then in 1975 the other service was held at the Lockert-Coakley Chapel of Memories. I am wondering if these are one in the same funeral home, just a name change. I have done a search on an online directory but to no avail. Can anyone out there in Cheatham County help???? Thanks in advance! Deb dgable@ties.k12.mn.us
Tom, I reckon dormant most of the time would be more appropriate but there's a few of us still out here. The Cheatham County Historical and Genealogical Association is presently working toward publication of a Family History Book through Turner Publishing Company. An individual can include his biography of up to 500 words and a photograph free. More than 500 words will cost you 15 cents each extra and if you want to include an extra photo that will cost you another 15.00. The book itself will cost you 52.50 - add $6.00 if you want it mailed. You may get a "how to" brochure by sending a request to the Cheatham County Historical and Genealogical Association at 233 North Vine Street, Ashland City, TN 37015. Pay no attention to the January 15 Deadline that the brochure indicates but it is imperative to get your bio/family history in as soon as possible. Please indicate that you saw the info on the TNCHEATH-L list. Respectfully, Jim Tom Gable wrote: > I have not received any posts since subscribing recently.
