1. [TNCHEATH-L] Re: BINKLEY, ABERNATHY, POOLE, ALLEN
2. In a message dated 5/6/00 3:10:22 PM PST, TNCHEATH-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: << Sara, Do you have the parents of an Ellen or Eleanor Binkley who married Wm. Mastin Pegram, Jr. on 4 Dec. 1892? I do not know if they had any children. Thanks, Nola ______________________________ >> Hi list!- It's great to see so much activity on this list again, it had gotten so quiet for a while! Anyway, my name is Stella and I live in So. CA with my mother's entire ancestor line in TN - Cheatham, Sumner, Davidson, Maury & Robertson Cos. primarily. The Cheatham Co. surnames that I am researching are: POOL/POOLE - currently have information that shows my gggrandparents, John & George Ann "Tennessee" POOL were residing in Ashland City, Cheatham Co. in 1868 - which is also the year that they were married; down through my grandfather's [James C. POOLE b. 9-24-1911 d. 6-27-1977 in San Diego, San Diego Co., CA] birth, also in Ashland City, to Richard Washington [son of John & Tennessee] & Birdy Mae DYCE [the daughter of Margrett JACKSON DYCE] POOL/POOLE. What I would really love at this point is ANY information at all available on Richard & Birdy & their generation, which is a huge gap in my research. I am assuming that they [Richard at least] resided in Ashland City pretty much their entire lifetime but am having a difficult time in finding any documentation or evidence of it. My mother claims that her grandfather was fairly heavily involved with the local Church of Christ in that area [may have been a deacon or some thing along those lines] but again, I find no mention of his name in any of the church histories that I have found. ABERNATHY - My grandfather's [James C. POOLE-as above] older sister, Ethel Mae POOLE b. abt 1909 in Cheatham Co. d. abt 1985-1990 married James Clifford ABERNATHY and this couple moved to Nashville, Davidson Co. where GUncle "Clifford" was a detective / chief of police with the Nashville P.D. for at least 20 years. I have recently learned that he passed away in March of this year and would love to be able to contact any of the surviving 3 of 4 children that they had. His obituary listed them as: Jackie JOHNSON, James "Bill" ABERNATHY & Debi ? . BINKLEY - I don't have a lot of information on the BINKLEY line other than that it is connected through the ABERNATHY line. I think that either James "Clifford" ABERNATHY either had a sister that married a BINKLEY or his mother was a BINKLEY. This information was given to me by another researcher that contacted me after finding a posting I had made regarding the ABERNATHY line, but she did state that this line was fairly large and that they had a history of residing in both Cheatham and Davidson Cos. ALLEN - My grandfather's only other sibling, a younger sister; Lorene "Reenie" POOLE b. 3-17-1913 in Cheatham Co. d. 8-1981 in Piketon, Pike Co., OH was married three times, the first time to Alvilda Porter ALLEN b. 2-6-1910 in UNK. d. 4-1956 in Columbia, Maury Co., TN, who was a business owner in Columbia and they had three children; Richard "Dicky" Dean ALLEN, and twins Danny Neal & Dee Ann ALLEN. I believe that her second marriage may have been to an Elkin GARFINKLE [ this name is listed as a guardian ad litem for the ALLEN children in a 1958 Davidson Co. Court case concerning the estate of Alvilda Porter ALLEN] who if this is correct, was 20 years older than she and from what I understand, it was a short lived marriage due to some improprieties with inheritances that they all should have received. The third and final time she married was to an Unk. HORN and nothing further is known abt that surname. I hope that I haven't bored y'all to tears with the length of this posting but I could really use some help with these lines and I don't have the resources to get to Cheatham Co., TN [although I would dearly love to] to do the research for myself. I do however, have access to CA vital records and information and am currently providing on a volunteer basis, lookups, transcriptions & copies of obituaries, death certificates, marriage certificates and other recorded documents from the Riverside & some surrounding Cos. in CA and I would be more than happy to provide these services to TN based researchers with CA ancestors/relatives in exchange for the same. I must say that alot of the documentation that I have received on my family has been located and provided to me by some very helpful and kind people that I have met through the internet and I truly appreciate all that has been done for me already. My hat is off to all of the wonderful Rootsweb volunteers and others who are doing whatever they can to be sure that all genealogists have free access to the records and documentation concerning their ancestry. Ok, I've exhausted any and all who made it through this entire message I'm sure so I think I'll step away from the podium and let someone else have a turn. Thanks for listening and good luck in your own continued genealogy research! Sincerely, Stella BULL4FISHZ@aol.com IBSSG & RootsWeb Donor+ Riverside Co. 1. Re: [TNCHEATH-L] Problem with sending Files
2. Linda...got a new computer a few months ago. Had Microsoft Works on it with Windows 95...This new one has a newer version of Works - I think 2000 and I have Windows 98. My files are saved as wps files in both, and of course, I can open them on my computer. But, when I send them as attachments in e-mail it comes out garbage. I tried to save them as a text file, but it will only let me save as wps (someone said that might be my problem)...I cannot find where there are any settings as to the type of file it will "save as"...When I send my transcriptions to the TN web site, the coordinator cannot read them anymore (no problem before)...I sent one to Jim Allen and he couldn't read it either...it is just garbage and I am very frustrated. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. Thanks Linda. Reba

2. Reba, Exactly what kind of a problem are you having. I am not a whiz at computers but I do know what to do sometimes. I have had so many computer problems too after I bought mine. Sometimes microsoft is not the best around. Have you tried microsoft word 2000 or do you have it? It is the best to work with. Let me know and maybe I can help. Linda

2. That reminds me...if any body on the Cheatham County Board lives near the Cheatham Dam area, I really need some help with the cemetery transcriptions in that area: with finding the cemeteries and with transcribing them if there are any willing volunteers. I am not very familiar with that area, but I know there are several down that way. Thanks. Reba BTW, can you send that link to the My Family Com page again?* Appreciate it...

2. Jim, here is the URL for the cemetery sites that I have transcribed: Cemetery Transcriptions - Tennessee. Just click on the county you are interested in and it will take you to the ones that have been uploaded for that county. I have a few more that I have transcribed that I can't get uploaded with my new computer. I don't know what is different with my microsoft works but it just sends out garbage. If any of you know what I might do to get it to send readable material, I would certainly welcome any suggestions. Reba

How can I put a family tree into History book. I know that Lewis Burrell Dunn was well known as probably the first settler into Cheatham County and this information would probably be very important. As far as I know my son is the only one left to carry on the Dunn name. Any help would be appre >> Mona, I am a descendant of Lewis Burrell Dunn, also. Your Thomas had a brother, Joseph N. Dunn who married first Minerva Ussery. They had a daughter Martha Ann and a son, Joseph H. both born in Kingson Springs. Martha Ann was my great grandmother, married to Theophilus "Offie" Fulghum. 1. [TNCHEATH-L] Re: Neal Family
2. Hey, everyone...am forwarding a copy of an email I received from Marge Currin (mccurrin@bellsouth.net) concerning her Neal family. Is there anyone out there who might be able to help her or give her some leads? Thanks....Reba In a message dated 5/6/00 10:46:34 AM Central Daylight Time, mcurrin@bellsouth.net writes: << Reba, I had found Jan about a year ago. She is a generation younger than I - so her g-grandfather Granville Neal was the brother of my grandfather Irving Monroe Neal. We also found a descendant of their sister Lizzie who married a Smith. When you transcribed Bethlehem Cemetery, I sent the URL to Jan - as Granville and Rhoda Neal were listed in your data. I send Jan a copy of anything I find. We just haven't found anything on the Neal family before Cheatham - except I found the marriage record of Thomas B. Neal and Victoria Blanks in Jefferson County, Illinois. From what my grandfather, Irving Neal, told us - the family was quite upset over the Civil War. The Cheatham census records show that Thomas B. Neal was born in Kentucky, but we have never found where. Also, we have not been able to trace his father and the rest of the family who apparently stayed in Illinois after the war. The Blanks family showed up in Montgomery County for some time, but we haven't found where in Virginia the father was born. A cousin Joanne Sullivan has moved to Ashland City now - and she is interested in the genealogy group there. I hope I can get her to see if she can find some records there - tax, court or whatever - that will give us more data on the family. I really appreciate all the work you have done which helps us all. When I lived in Nashville and had all the resources for family history available, I didn't take time to get any data. Since 1958 I have lived in Daytona Beach, Florida. There is almost nothing here that I can use for references. Orlando has a great library, but the traffic situation there makes it impossible for me to get there. Thank you so much for your interest.
