    3. Jane Sanders, As you well know, Williams is a hard name to research. I have Bennett Williams as Samuel's brother. They came to Robt. Co. from Person County North Carolina. In my research and corresponding with Williams from that area, I have found a Benet Williams there who possibly was the father. Samuel was in Tennessee in the 1840 census. He was at Pickney Gunn's estate sale and owed his estate $2.80. ================================================================ 1780 North Carolina Census Williams listed Thomas Tobias Ralph John Bennett (Bengt) Abner ============== 1790 Bennett Williams St. James District ============= Person County North Carolina Deed Book 1792-1825 Pg. 80 #20 Bennett Williams to Samuel Williams for 100 lbs., 183A on Chubb Creek adj. 3. Jim, I have a James Russell. His son was Lee Roy Russell, b. 1886 in Johnson County, Illinois. Lee Roy Russell m. Ida Rena Gower, b. 1888 in Johnson County, Illinois. Ida Rena Gower's father was John Wilson Gower, b. 1852, Williamson County, Illinois. His father was William Washington Gower, b. 1833 in Davidson County, Tennessee. His father was Russell Gower, b. 1804 in Davidson County, Tenn. His father was Robert Gower, b. 1777. His father was Russell Gower, b. about 1755 in Brunswick, Virginia. Russell's sister Mary Gower m. in 1741 John Robertson, b. 1723. Their son was James Randolph Robertson, b. 1742, the one you are talking about. So, Robert Gower, b. 1777, above, would be the same generation as James Randolph Robertson, b. 1742 James Russell would have been the same generation as John Wilson Gower, b. 1852 There's a one hundred year gap here, probably, between James Russel and James Randolph Robertson. So, probably, this is not the same James Russell you are looking for. But the families were definitely related. I have other Russell "leads" that might help - the Russell family moved with the Gowers, Sanderses, Kearneys/Carneys, Williamses, Brownings (I think) and other families to southern Illinois together in the 1830's. ---------------------------------------- Russell and Kearney/Carney line, also Robinson 1 (?) 2. Looks as if you uploade a gedcom file and it took the whole thing. I'm not sure what to do here except to say you may have to delete what you have and then just enter (not using a gedcom file) what you want in there. I had my family tree on an old Tandy Family Ties program but have changed computers and haven't decided on a program to use that is simple and that I like. Rsp Jim Allen P.S. My computer skills are definitely amature anyhow:). Perhaps you can figure it out and help us all. Family Historian wrote: > You can definitely tell I am not accoustom to uploading files. 2. It is a cchga myfamily.com site and is a closed, invitation only site, where all users can post information regarding Cheatham County or other reasonable subjects. Send me your first and last name and e-mail address and I can put you on the list, if you desire. You will receive a user name and password and e-mail notices when new items are posted. There is also a chat room there. Right now there are about 100 members with Cheatham County interests. Not all are members of CCHGA nor do they have to be.
