Good morning all, I assume that this will not interest most of you folks but since we are getting postings regarding my personal web site, perhaps this will clarify things. First, dogtrot.com is a domain name. The dogtrot was chosen because of the Tennessee dog trot house. My Tennessee ancestors lived in dog trots. My web site is located at TABNet. They accept the domain name pointer as part of my contract with them. The contract costs me $319 yearly, and in return I get 30m of server space, a limited bandwidth, but with *no* advertising banners, *no* pop up windows, and *no* cookie files. On my personal site, I have my wife's photography, my paintings, many old family photographs, my Indian Peace Medal project, two genealogical association sites, and since yesterday, my TGW Warren Co pages. Please visit there and see for yourself: http://www.dogtrot.com/ http://www.dogtrot.com/wcga/ http://www.dogtrot.com/mtgs/ http://www.dogtrot.com/indian_peace_medals/ http://www.dogtrot.com/warren/ Yesterday I moved my Warren County site to dogtrot.com. It was not all that long ago that moved from USIT to RootsWeb. That earlier move was made because I wanted to avoid the page top banners that USIT had just then required. I found RootsWeb to be user friendly and certainly it looked OK to me. When other CCs asked me about RW, I would tell them that they could get a RW page free, and that RW would serve them well. Then on 9 June, Dr. Brian Leverich announced on his USGNWEB-ALL-L list "Improving Our Ability to Serve the Public." In other words, his "cluster pages" a.k.a., Table of Contents. He had apparently established GenConnect Boards for every county in the US, plus a mailing list for every county. The next morning, the national mailing lists became very active, there being much concern about RW's change of direction. After watching the arguments about RW for over a month, on Monday I decided to move my Warren Co site. Like any other CC, I too have the right to place my county site on any server of my choice. I decided to move to my Warren page to my dogtrot site, rather than back to USIT - because that way, I would not need to add the USIT ssi script at the top of my pages and the logo at the bottom of the pages. Also, I would not need to rebuild all the graphics links to access our /graphics/ directory on USIT. As it so happens, Ladye Jane Hunter does the obits for Warren Co and uploaded to my RW Warren site. If I moved Warren back to USIT, she could not upload. She is not a RC. But by placing Warren on dogtrot, she can upload, because it is my personal site. Ladye wrote to me yesterday, and said she was not sure what she wanted to do about her Trousdale County site. Leave it at RW, move back to USIT or put it on some other server. So I wrote back to her that she could put Trousdale on dogtrot as she will be uploading her Warren obits there anyway. Sure seemed simple enough to me at time. Considering that I have only 30m total of allotted space on my site, there is not much room available for extra data, but the figures show that I could add one small county site. Fred Smoot
