At Maynardville.Com we are getting into the local news business. I recently made noises about purchasing our local paper, but it really got nowhere. Word got around and now people send us press releases and community events. Among all the good useful stuff, we also get some odd ones. The following came to me Sunday morning, as my e-mail gets everything sent to news@maynardville.com. (Trust me I edited this one) I went to a wrestling match in you little town last night and was attacked my one of the wrestlers. Millerd "Cotton" Nichols reched over the guardrail to punch me in the eye. After the incident, the local policeman on duty there tried to detain me and have me thrown in jail for not leaving when I was told to, but let the guy who hit me walk right out the door. So upon reading this I thought two things. 1) What a dufus! 2) Wow I didn't even know we had wrestling matches. (Except those at a local bar every Saturday night) So I wrote him back and asked for more details. He sent me this: well, there isn't much more to tell, it was all a blur, the guy said I spit on him, his name was Millard "Cotton" Nichols. The wrestling matches are held every saturday night. I went to see my friend Kevin wrestle, he is called Kamikaze. the only thing that really bothered me was the fact that "Barney Fife" thought he could pick on me because I'm from out of town. It was total discrimination. The people who run the show were cool about everything, but that cop, or security guard or whatever totally harassed me, and I didn't even get an apology! So I stopped by and talked to our police department. I do some work for them from time to time on their CC Cameras and know everyone there. I was told that my e-mailer was dog faced drunk and tried to climb in the ring. Seems he fell in the ropes and got all tangled up. At this point both wrestlers gave him a good thrashing. He was taken away not by a policeman but by a member of the ambulance service. Actually, I'm told it was the most exciting fight of the night! Don't you just wish you lived in a county like this? Heh Heh Chip P.S. Anybody know how many of us are subscribed to this list (tnchat)? If you get this e-mail drop me a note at chip@maynardville.com. I'd like to see just who all is subscribed over here.
