I just started reading a book titled Reforging America by Lothrop Stoddard. In it the author describes what's wrong with America. The Race relations, the rise of the paramilitary factions, the underlying causes of division. He covers the corruptness of our government and how unfair the taxes are. He describes the dangers America faces from foreign factions and even explains how the influx of immigrants will ruin our economy. He describes the terrible new diseases that threaten America as well as the new super weapons we can expect to be implemented against us by our enemies. So why am I telling you all this? What makes this book special in a sea of "Blast America" books that have come out in the 1990's and even 2000? I'll tell you what...Lothrop Stoddard wrote this book in 1927. It's amazing how the fears were exactly the same then as they are today. The news media tells us every day how all these threats are new. This prompts us to worry about the direction our society has taken. It's truly amazing to realize that back in the days my grandfather called "The good old days" they had the exact same worries as today. Maybe the diseases had different names and they were worried about mustard gas and not "the bomb" but it's refreshing to see that society has dealt with all this before. Kind of gives me hope for the future. If you get a chance, find a copy of the book and read it. It's truly amazing.
