Carl N Hayes, in his 1966 book, Neighbor Against Neighbor, Brother Against Brother, Greene County in the Civil War, writes of a Civil War diary kept by William Elbert Franklin Sevier Milburn of the 12th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry (Union). Hayes wrote that "This diary is now in the possession of Mr. John Lindsay, with a copy in the possession of Miss Milburn Divine, Johnson City, Tennessee, who is the granddaughter of the author."
