Robert Buckles was born in Yorkshire, England and came to America as a stowaway on a ship in 1719. He married Ann Brown in PA in 1727. Their son, Abraham, had a son named Robert who worked in VA and eventually drifted South to Carter Co., TN. Robert & spouse had about 6 children, one being Mary "Polly" Buckles b.1799 in Sullivan Co., TN. She got pregnant by a man named Cass Hughes and it seems that was the extent of his fathering. Mary gave birth to Robert Campbell Buckles and seems to have raised him herself as I have never found any record of her marriage. He was a Confederate soldier and married 1.Matilda Caroline Taylor 2.Martha Nidiffer. Matilda & Robert had about 7 children, one of which was Mary Buckles b.1850-1930 who married George Washington White. They had several children, one of which was Thomas White, my g-grandfather. That's my line of Buckles. Stoney Creek and surrounding areas have many, many Buckles families still living there--some have even married into my grandmother's side of the family-----wait, is that banjo music I hear????????
