It looks like you are on the right track. I can't help you solve it, but I can provide the wills for Rhoda Miller and John Miller from a project I've been working on forever. I'll send one of the wills now and later [after I've transcribed it, I'll send the other one]. I nominate and appoint William Clark and John Miller my Executors In Witness whereof I do to this my Will set my hand and seal this the 12th day of April 1875. Rhoda Miller [seal] In presence of Atest: James H. Martin Henry Smalley [Note by JAKS, the compiler: In Item "2nd" E. K. Miller as written in this copy should probably have been E. C. for E. Catherine. In Item “5th” the son David T. Miller was mistakenly left out of this copy of will but obviously from the wording “my five children” he should have been in this item.] ________________________________ From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: TNCARTER-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, July 7, 2010 3:38:09 AM Subject: [TNCARTER] John and Rhoda [Kirby?] Miller of Carter County TN This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: MilfordKirby Surnames: Miller, Kirby Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.carter/1209/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The family of John and Rhoda Miller appear in the 1860 and 1870 censuses for Carter County TN. Rhoda died between 1870 and 1880, and John is listed as widowed in the 1880 census for Carter County TN. In the 1900 census, John appears and has been remarried, since 1883, to spouse Sarah J., with no offspring of the second marriage. From the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses, John and Rhoda appear to have had at least six children born after 1849: David, Sarah, Elizabeth, Daniel, Mary and Evie. I am trying to determine whether this John and Rhoda of Carter County are the same John K. Miller and Rhoda Kirby who were married in Blount County, TN, on October 23, 1849, and who appear in the 1850 census for Pulaski County, Virginia. Rhoda Kirby of Blount County was a daughter of my 4th-great grandparents, James Kirby and Lydia Ayres Kirby, of Blount County, TN. I have a fair amount of information on the decendents of James and Lydia's son Richard, from whom I am descended, but almost no i! nformation on the descendants of Rhoda. I would appreciate any response from descendants or others with knowledge of John K. Miller and Rhoda Kirby Miller. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
