    1. Highway Markers, Dan Ellis' Residences
    2. Allen Ellis
    3. This week, a couple of questions. There are (or were) three highway markers that mention Dan Ellis. The "Old Red Fox" one (1 E 85) in Carter County is, of course, long gone. There are two others, both titled "Federal Underground Route," on US 23 in Sullivan County. One (1 A 83) is between the Virginia line and Morrison City; the other (1 A 84) is south of the Holston River. Are these two markers standing today? Also, where did Dan Ellis live? It is well-known that he had a house near the Doe River which was destroyed in the great May, 1901 flood, but where was it? Where was his residence afterwards? Previously?
