Joshua's wife's name is also unknown, although, some have said it may have been VANDERPOOL. From what I've been told, Joshua came from Ireland. He was found in Ashe Co., NC. I was also told family came from Wilkes or Burke Co NC. Another son of Joshua was David, who married Socro DAVIS. Is the book you are quoting from Carter Co and Its People? If not, could you site me the source. Thanks Claudia Carson [email protected]

It mentions that Nancy Oaks Married Jacob Miller in 1808. That is all it says, but it mainly deals with the Oaks family. It says Nancy's father was Joshua Oaks. The article deals with a Barnabus Oaks, brother to Nancy. Hope this helps some.

It is indexed by surname and covers nearly all the counties in Tennessee except for those where records have been destroyed for this time period (1779-1861). Just email me the name you are looking for and I will give you the information from this book. It gives the name, date, where the record can be found, the letter or number of the record book and then the page number and the county. Kristi Moffitt www.gensearch.org [email protected]

Hello, I am also studying the Davis lines. Asa Davis's sister Nancy who married Thomas Baker is my ancestor. I have their parents as Charles Davis and Martha and they are in Carter Co 1840 and 1850 census records. Does anyone know who Charles Davis's and Martha's parents are? I have hit a brick wall on this and am looking for a breakthrough. I would love to see the picture of Asa and Susannah. Can you email it to me? Any help would be appreciated. I can do census lookups for Unicoi County 1880 and 1900. There's lots of Davis records here including Asa and Susannah! I also have Unicoi Co marriage records 1876-1904 if this helps anyone. Most historical societies I know of are barely getting by on what little money they get from us researchers. Any clues on how much it would be to get it fixed?
