Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EeB.2ACE/2.17.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Many of the Bowers filed for the Cherokee pension but were denied as there was no registered Indian name, due I believe, to the fact that the Indian died prior to registration. There is a Rev Abraham Bowers b:1830 married to Mary Ellis who moved from TN to MO and he died in ARK. He had a brother Henry Bowers b: 1814 married to Mary Lincoln. The Elder Bowers may have been their brother Leonard B. Bowers b: 1815 first married to Elizabeth Nave and then Catherine Meek. who stayed in TN. They also had a brother Rev. John Leonard b: 1830 married to Mary "Polly" Cannon. They have a sister Mary L. Bowers b: 1835 married to Lilburn Treadway. Although I have several Mary's on my list I do not show a Mary Jane or any of the married names you mention. My direct line stayed pretty much in TN while the siblings moved to MO. The Bowers mentioned above descend from Rev. Valentine Bowers 1782-1867. He had a brother William Nave Bowers who migrated to MO and died in Jackson County. His second wife was Katharine Linville b: 1790 in NC. She lived in MO with him. I haven't concentrated on this line as it is not my direct one. Rev. Valentine is. They both descend from Leonard Bowers 1760 - 1840 and his wife Rebecca Nave 1769 - 1849. Leonard is from Maryland. Hope this might give you the leads you're looking for.

Surnames: Bower, Sisk, Brown Carter Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EeB.2ACE/2.17.1.2 Message Board Post: Hello. My name is Cindy McWilliams. My cousin, Diana Cecil and I are researching the Bowers surname as we just learned that we are connected to the Bowers family. We learned that our ggggrandmother was Mary Jane Bowers, who eventually married a Huff, Sisk and then Shannon. While Mary Jane Bowers was married to Jesse Sisk, they had a daughter named Amanda M. Sisk born in 1862. I believed they lived in Missouri, possibly Worth, Morgan, Cass and Mountain Grove, MO. We are trying to locate Mary Jane Bowers family--parents, siblings, etc. We have documents showing there was an Abram N. Bowers as well as a Henry Bowers (minister of the gospel), as well as an E. or Elder H. B. Bowers (document not clear enough for me to read the latter name). There is undocumented Indian blood in our family line, but am not certain if it comes from this line or the other family lines we are researching which are Brown, Carter, Sisk. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!!! Cindy and Diana
