    1. Jones and Casteel in Johnson City and Unicoi TN and surrounding Areas
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Jones Casteel Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EeB.2ACE/375 Message Board Post: I've hit a stumbling block on this side of my ancestry research... The Jones. I hope someone has some information that might help me break through this brick wall. My grandfather, John Elbert Jones, b. 10/29/1909 per his tombstone and the info Social Security information in Ancestry.com. However, his hand-written Social Security Application says 9-29-1908. "Elbert" or "Elwood" as he was called, lived in various places between Jonesboro and Johnson City, TN areas His last residence was Johnson City working for the Gas Company... until he had a seizure resulting in a car accident around April of 1972 where he drifted into a coma and never came out. He died on 6-3-1972 at our home in Springfield, VA and is buried at Anderson Cemetary in Unicoi, TN. Elbert's father, was Rev. R. D. Jones as noted on his tombstone... the "D" standing for David per Elbert's Social Security Application. He is also buried at Anderson Cemetary in Unicoi, TN. His tombstone showing he was born 1868 and died 1928. Buried along side of the Rev. is his wife (Elbert's mother), Alice Rebecca Casteel, b. 6-16-1871, Scott County, VA; d. 11-6-1955. Elbert had a lot of sisters and brothers, some full, some half, some step (adopted children by parents), as his father was married once prior to the marriage with Alice. These siblings are believed to be Rosie Jones (married a Carroll) Ollie Jones (married a Humphreys) Dall Jones ? Cordie Jones ? Alvin ? Jones (married Ms. Agnes Spaller) lived in Elizabethon, TN I am told. Elzie (or Elza) Jones (Married Ms. Arlee Rowe) lived in Unicoi, TN. C. Jones Ida Bowman (married Alex Payne) Henry S. Bowman (married a woman named "Neat" ) Henry may have married a couple of times. Frank Jones (married Ms. Ella May or Mae) I believe that my grandfather Elbert Jones was married three times, though I personally only know of the latter two: (1) Ms. Liz Watson is said to be buried next to Elbert at Anderson Cemetary in Unicoi, TN although there is not marker to indicate such. I've not found any documentation confirming this marriage or buriel. (2) Ms. Agnes Emma Head. On their marriage license, my grandfather is lsited as "Elwood Jones" instead of Elbert). (3) Pearl Shelton If you have any information or connection to anyone mentioned in this post, PLEASE email me at [email protected] Thank you and happy hunting !

Surnames: Bishop Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EeB.2ACE/371.1.1.1 Message Board Post: At least there was a death certificate turned in for the child. Any records the business kept probably would not have contained any more information except the cost of the casket and any other fees that they charged. It is possible that the child has a grave marker in some cemetery. If you will send me the name of the parents of this child I will see if I can find any record of their burial in cemetery records that have been abstracted for Carter County. The child was probably buried in a family cemetery. If not with it's parents, then maybe with grandparents. You can reply to me privately, if you wish. [email protected]

Thus the store owner was also an undertaker.

My Moses Johnson came from NC in the 1840's. In all liklehood it was because of a nephew who was hung for murder. His nephew, Pres. Andrew Johnson, probably left NC for the same reason. At least his mother got him out of there. There were some cousins who were constantly in trouble and she wanted to get them away from there, which she did. I know that Moses was married to Nancy Mayfield at the same time as your Moses married Margaret Mosely. I also know that Moses had 4 children with Nancy Mayfield, and my great great grandfather was the second child. Moses married a Rachel McInturf after Nancy's death. He lived in the Hampton area of Carter Co. and died there in 1872. I was on the land where he lived 18 months ago. Some cousins are there now!
