One of the reasons I would like to get a copy of his pensions records is I was reading to my dad what a cousin sent me as a partial abstract of it and he had caught the part about him being captured at Camden, SC and put in prison. It just so happen that my other 5th. great grandfather " Hardy Carter " Hardy served 4 years in the Revolution under Gen. Francis Marion, enlisting Sept. 3, 1778, in 4th Artillery Regiment of S. C.. This was documented in the Bibliographic Information: Seaver, J. Montgomery. Carter Family Records. American Historical Society, Philadelphia 1929. He was one of the 17 men that helped free Leonard BOWERS from prison along with Francis Marion. I would like to put his papers with the one that I have of my other grandfathers, not only for the school project and maybe I could research the Camden, SC battle more and write an article on how one grandfather saved another. I know I can order a copy from the Archives but I would not be able to get it by April for my project. My father told me that it was ironic that so many of our ancestors crossed paths in years past. If you can help me I really would appreciate it. Thanking you in advance. Ed Hunt Jr.

She was suppose to have been married to John Potter born 1813. They had at least one child John Potter/Swiney born 1843. John died during the Civil War. I found Margaret with what appears to be her grandparents in 1850 in Carter County. 1850 Carter County, TN census, district6, household # 35-35 Joseph Swiney, age 92, born NC, married 28 November 1795 Susannah Swiney, age 74, born NC Margaret Swiney, age 24, born TN John Swiney, age 7, born TN Who are her parents? Where did she die and where is she buried? The last time I found her in census records she was living in the Watauga/Rqnge/Trukeytown area of Carter County. She had a brother, James Swinney born 1815. He lived in the same area that Margaret lived. She alwasy listed her name as Margaret Potter and said in a pension application that she had been married to him and he deserted her and her son.

I haven't scored a Nathan Swiney, yet, but my bunch went through VA before NC and TN, and there is a Nathan Swiney listed in the military records of Giles County, VA in the War of 1812. Camp's Company, 4th Regiment, Virginia Militia Here is a link to the site http://www.genealogy-quest.com/Virginia/Giles/Military/War-of-1812/index.html I would be willing to bet that that early on, all the Swineys are going to be related. Several e-mails of interest have been received about interest in the Watauga Petition of 1776 that in reality established the first free government in America. There were 113 signers of this petition. A signer of this petition established him- self as a Patriot with SAR and DAR. Of course many of the signers were membes of the Over Mountain Men that went to King's Mountain defeated Col. Ferguson and changed the course of American history. Can you estimate the number of des- cendants of these 113 Patriots. It would seem to me that it should make each proud of their ancestor's service and make you want to establish your descent from same. If you are interested, please contact Bob Hughes for further info. "Opportunities never come to those who wait....they are captured by those who dare to attack".

If anyone has access to cemetery books and willing to do a lookup for my ancestor Leroy Brannon, please? The family believes he died in 1853. He was born around 1815. I only have him located in the 1850 census of Carter Co., TN. Then his wife and children moved to Kentucky. Would love to know if he is actually buried in Carter County. He is my brickwall. Thanks so much! Meg
